Does anyone on here run any form of sound system whilst also having straight cut gears?

I have straight cut drops in my small bore and currently have no audio. I've been thinking of putting in a very simple set up (hu plus two speakers up front) to keep me entertained on long journeys/provide a soundtrack to weekend pleasure drives.

Is it worth it? Any recommendations for speakers? I only want speakers up front and don't want any subs, amps as I want to keep the weight down.

mine isnt straight cut - far from it! but i had a fat exhaust leak and that was pretty loud! i fitted 2 5" pioneer 25watt speakers under the rear seat - do a good job and you can hardly see them and although people say they sound poo there i disagree. a nice pair of high quality 5-6" speakers (you can fit 6 x 9's there also) produces enough kick with a nice head unit. i like it because its fairly invisible to the untraioned eye but up to you!

Yup, I normally bodge something up for shows. Only a head unit and 2 speakers mind, but does the trick. Listening to any kind of music whilst driving is a big no though :)

Why a big no? Because you can't hear it?

Pretty much, unless you have it at a seriously unhealthy volume :)

a friend has a mini marcos that is a fully stripped 1380 with straight cut box. he has some big headphones that you can talk to your passenger with, they also plug into his iphone for music and when you call him he sounds clear as a bell on them. it brilliant considering there is nothing to soak up the sound (fibreglass seats aswell)

have you thought about something like that?

What budget are you looking at Pooky - as if you by cheap speakers it will sound carp - plus I think you can only fit 10cm ones in a dash unless you are happy with pods in the footwells like mine - then you can upgrade to 13cms.

Pretty small budget to be honest £100-£150 and that would include a HU and some pods :) I had thought about the intercom/music headphone/hands free kit. I've got an iPhone full of music so this might be a good solution... Let's have a google...

Pods can be made cheaply if you are competant with a jigsaw, an old t shirt and fibreglass resin :)

Don't go for any HU's with an iPod jack in the front as you need the iPod would up to full volume and it sounds poor.

So my mission is to find a good HU and speakers for £150 max?? 10cm or 13cm speakers??

Thanks David, those look good. Loved my old alpine unit I used to have!

What about an iPhone based motorcycle intercom meant for biker and pillion?
