I think Charkie's plan was always to bring his car home. Since it's over 10 years old, leaving it out there was never an option after the rule changes. I also think that's the main reason he had to abandon the trip early, even with the car fixed he wouldn't have had enough time to get there and make the return journey.

Thanks for all the nice messages.
The trip took a total of 4 weeks (but that is driving to Kaz and driving home - Mongolia may have been 4.5 weeks ish
)
The mini is back home on the drive, thinking of selling it to fund the next project.
Still writing the report, at 8000 words and not even done half, still working on it now. It's quite a tale, as you can imagine.
