or a slightly cheaper version

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e8#ht_514wt_930

or even cheaper and then just get the other bits from elsewhere.

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...7#ht_1340wt_930

Nah ain't gonna shout at ya :(

Might just take the P a bit though lol

Its a wide choice mate.

The most popular set up is the LCB exhaust manifold, with a RC40 exhaust (either a single or double silencer system), this has been used for years on Minis and proven to be one of, if not the best set up you can fit.

On a 998, you shouldn't need to go to a 2 inch exhaust system, its just way to big and will in fact make the engine perform worse!

I reckon whats happened is that the previous owner of your car had a 1275 (or bigger) and stuck the 998 in when he sold the car, keeping the exhaust and other bits on there just to keep it going.

The Minispares stage one kit is a good one. But a bit pricy, (Also as a paid up Club Member, you'll get a discount!). You can do it the cheap way and source the parts second hand though.

Don't forget, if you do decide to do it this way, stick your old exhaust and the manifold on Ebay, your should get a fair bit of your money back.

Its up to you what to do with the carb though, If it is definately a 44 then it maybe worth keeping for if you ever decide to stick a 1275 in there. If not, bung it on Ebay and you'll be surprised at what it may fetch! :D

As for when you fit the new inlet manifold, you don't need to connect the water pipe, its not essential. Mine is connected, but thats because the previous owner had done it and I can't be bothered to change it, it doesn't really matter!

thanks for your excellent info once again chunky.

im gonna have to do it the cheap way because i though i was just about finished with the car (work wise)

i think i might try to source the pieces separately, if i can find them cheaper that way.

ive put a swap advert in to get a new exhaust so i see if i get any on that.

i would have definitely put it on ebay anyway afterwards.

if i get all of the other stuff i will have a carb off you, but im gonna have to look around for all that stuff first.

ill let u know how i get on and we can take it from there.

I have been thinking though.

There is another way.

Its not ideal, but would be a bit cheaper and will involve some hard work!

Ask Andy the finer details, as he did it to his car.

But if you take your manifold and CUT IT to seperate the inlet and exhaust manifolds, you should be able to keep the exhaust on there and fit a stage 1 inlet manifold (cheap on EBay!) with another carb, it will run and should be ok to drive.

I'm not saing this is in any way the ideal way to do it, but it may do for the time being.

Keep in mind though, that you may still have running problems with the large bore exhaust, this can be swapped at a later date as and when you have the dosh.

Also it means the manifold you have at the moment will in theory, be almost worhless!

Check Ebay and give your post on the Club site a couple of days. I'll ring a couple of people and see what we can come up with.

We've managed to build about 3 complete stage one kits for about £30 so far! :(

oh nice

yeh andy did spend ages cutting this and then just bought a stage one a couple of days later haha.

and no i think i would rather spend the money on a new one and then at least sell the other and get a bit back.
its bound to not run properly after anyway.

im gonna have a butchers on ebay in a mo.
