Ok. Bear in mind though it could be the wiring instead. Excessive engine rock can put stress on the map sensor wiring and cause it to break down. This can sometimes account for it being fine when driving (engine tipped one way) and conking out when off the throttle (engine rocks to other extreme). New wires can be spliced in bypassing any break areas.

yeh i read about something similar, i'll check the wiring as well. It mainly stalls when i put the clutch in, but yeh i guess that still causes movment.

How many miles has your mpi done? mine is on about 27k, which i thought was very low

cheers,
Joe

Mine had done 32k when I bought it, but now I'm doing 700 miles a week, it's racked right up to 46k :D

i just had a closer look at the mini. Most of the black tape around the 3 little wires going into the MAP sensor had come off, so i wraped them back up with fresh tape. i didn't want to take the sensor out to check it because i don't have a new o' ring for it, so i just unpluged the connector, and brushed it out.

I also took the Inlet air temperature sensor out to take a look, and there was engine oil in the plug on the wire connectors! god knows how that got in there, must of spilled some on it when i did the oil change a few weeks ago. Could oil this cause stalls and kangarooing?

took it for a 15min drive and no stalls, had a couple little kangaroo's, but it felt smoother than before. I think i'm going to give everything a good clean up like minicooper 1.3i did when i get a clear day. Hopefully thats all it needs

Whilst it's off, don't forget to grind / file down the throttle stop piece so it opens fully. I did mine and it does make a difference under hard acceleration.

Good luck with it! :) Any probs, you know where we are :D

Aerosol contact cleaner should be good for this. Be sure to re-insulate / check insulation of electrical contacts so water & other muck don't get back in...
