Phil Hepworth 01925 636959

Interested to know more about this chap What sort of work he does and where he works/ owns :dontgetit: Is that if the number is right he is in Warrington :dontgetit:

Phil hepworth is the Guy who worked at Howley, and later owned RaceSpec in Warrington. Very knowledgable guy. He down-sized Racespec a few years ago, but still does builds and boring/honing / basic machining from his workshop at his house in Urmston. I've lot's of time for Phil - you won't meet a more genuine guy.

If you want more info - call him - and mention i put you onto him :dontgetit:

thanks for the replies guys, i was in a bit of a hurry with him sitting next to me bugging me to ask because he didn't trust my judgement in what he needed.

the blocki have got already has a centre main strap, i have a t3 turbo off a renault 21 turbo for it, so ill swap the comp housing off the 21t T3 and bang it on the metro turbo unit.
i have a cossie 2wd intercooler sitting at home which i didn't think about.
thanks for the comments on the head studs, they had totally slipped my mind.
i dont want to go near nitrous for him, because it will benifit him when he has got the juice but when he runs out he'll be expecting the same kind of power etc and it just wont happen, so i am staying away from nitrous.
i have been looking into megasquirt kit, so i could fuel inject the mini, use a ford edis system, and a throttlebody etc off a mondeo 2.0l or something, plenty big enough to flow whatever boost he wanted and cheap and easy to pickup.

why should i go for the stg2 instrad of the avonbar ultimate?? i always believe if there aint much price difference in something that will allow me to go further in the future go for that instead of the one that will do for now.

as for the head i will be doing that myself with some help from my dad, he has been porting race bikes for years and i did my mazda mx5, so i know the crack there, i also have very detailed pictures of a "work of art" turbo head.

straight through exhaust is a must, anything that pisses off the babylon more than my car is better!!! :dontgetit:
best for power and safety for the engine, so ill do it happily for him, lol

i recently got rid of a very very fast renault 21 turbo which i played around with from the std 175bhp and 199ftlbs torque to 248bhp and 249 ftlbs torque no further up the rev range, and only running 2 psi more than std!

so i know the crack with turbos, just for those with doubts over that 1st post lol
thanks again guys

I suspect you'll find the Turbine from the R21 is larger than a 0.35 - this was a 2.2 litre engine wasn't it???? If it is a 0.35, it still might not be right as it may be a larger turbine trim. Either way, you won't spool anything over a 0.35 until something like 4000rpm. Basically, plain useless.

Fuel injection on an A-series is a big no-no. Just because MS is a home-built unit doesn't make it any more suitable either. Some have claimed to have it right, but No-one has yet installed MS and done a back-to-back with an SU. Take my advice on this - stick to an SU, but fdefinately ditch the dizzy (Use MSJ just for the Sparks).

There are a few things to the turbo cam, but basically to make a cam work, you need a high dynamic CR. With a turbo, you're lowering the CR. It'll all come together and work well at 5000+ rpm, unfortunatelly, someone with just an MG metro profile, or at most Avonbar ph2 will be crossing the line while you're still trying to launch your mini... Stick to known profiles.

Work of art turbo head? Well a turbo chamber would follow an ideal nat-asp chamber ideally, but be deeper. Hogging out past the spark-plug is not neccesarilly the best; ones like this are developed from need, not from a dyno...

I can also reccomend Mr Hepworth, having dealt with him on a few occasions. You won't find many who know the Turbo A-series like he does.

Phil. :dontgetit:

the 21turbo was a 2.0l
ill stick withthe std turbo then till it goes pop then he can get r5 turbo hybrid if necessary, slight mod to the manifold and no probs.
i dont see why megasquirt wouldn't work if i replaced everything and ran it off a throttlebody instead of the su, deffo worth a try i think, lots of hard work but if i can get it to work which i dont think would be too hard it would be well worth it!
thanks for the advice on the cam!
ill get talking to him so i can see the colour of his queens heads!

Ah so thats where Racespec dissapeared to. Was real bummed to go to thier old premises to find a tyre fitting service :dontgetit: :dontgetit: Had work done there many years ago and know thier history but not been playing with engines for a while and find Racespec gone when I need some machining work done

Have you had any dealings with the Head Shop in Warrington, its the only machine shop I've found in Warrington that seem to know what they're doing. I've had bad experiences with Automec in Cadishead and will never ever go back. I've also found two rolling roads in warrington but not sure if they know what they're doing with plain simple old Minis ( Automech certinly don't  ). Any recomendations would be much apreciated.

Do you think he would mind me giving him a ring regarding some out of the ordinary machine work :dontgetit: I know you posted his number but you say he works from home

Sorry to highjack the topic :nugget: But very important info has been unearthed here :dontgetit:

Edit

I see you said that it should be alright if I mention your name :nugget:

sprocket, You wouldn't by any chance have pics of the combustion chambers of the head, with a 1275 gasket over the top to see how far out they are?
