Does anyone know the legal requirements for a battery box. I've a MDF one but have been told it needs to be acid proof and vented?
Now plan to keep it in the boot with the internally mounted fuel tank.

If you fit it under the rear seat, make sure its well secured. A battery is not something you want flying around the inside of the car if you are unlucky enough to be in a smash.

does anyone have any pictures of the rear seat mounted battery is the box placed on top of the seats? or is a hole cut with the box fabricated into the hole?

It would go on the floor under the lip of the rear seat base panel.
You really need a sealed container in case of an accident - battery acid is very nasty stuff to get onto the skin.

The batteries on vans and pickups are positioned behind the drivers seat with no sealed box or vent arrangement, so I can't see why you couldn't do the same.
Whilst the battery is checked on MOT the car cannot be failed for having an insecure battery, it is only an advisory item. However it makes sense to secure the battery with clamps or straps for obvious reasons.
