Just put a small washer on the end of the cable for now! actually once your carbs are set up you probably wont need the choke anyway, just hold the throttle for a fast tickover for abot 15 seconds and it should be fine. I prefer not to use the choke on a twin setup to reduce bore wash.

The fuel economy question, from experience is answered like this. You have been told that driving style is the culprit for over fueling and thats correct in my opinion. The sound of twins on free flow filters just makes you want to put your foot down to hear it. The simple answer is to fit two or three throttle return springs with different strengths. this will allow you to "feel" the throttle. A soft one will make for general daily driving and the next strongest will give you extra pressure on the pedal that you then need to push a bit harder (for overtaking and accelerating). the next one (the strongest), is for when you want to "boot it" and you will need to press even harder to make it stretch, Obviously the stages of spring strength need to be allowed slack to enable the previous spring to work before hitting the next strength spring and the easiest way to do this to use shorter springs for each strength and make up the difference in length with a weak one. I know it sound complicated but it works. A bit like the feel of a webber twin choke. but you can add as many stages as you want.

Even simpler, get a vacuum gauge and actually use it properly, or just control your impulse to put your foot down.

My trip to MITP showed around 35 MPG and i had Yoda loaded with stuff plus a passenger and i have a very short diff too, (speedo is at least 20% out!) the Engine is a 1380 with 286 cam running twin HS4'S etc etc.

Personally I prefer to just run 3 strong springs, to get a finer feel over the pedal, with the stronger springs you can really minimise your foot travel and it exacerbates the force required to move the pedal even a couple of 8ths of an inch, this tricks you into thinking you have pushed the pedal further than you really have...and when you do put foot down, you get a nice symphony of pleasure as a surprise!

Each to his own  But on a long journey, your ankle would suffer a bit! as i said i am not using progressive springs at the moment as i use the car for fun, but the old school method works well if you can be bothered to set it up right. but thats more for a road daily and a bit of fun when you want it, not long haul!

Getting there guys, the part for the choke cable is "FERRULE AUC 8479" for a massive £1.01 :) (+£2.50 p&p) from Burlen/SU cheers liirge....

re the breathers, rather than the £40 clack valve, can I just use this http://www.somerford...oducts_id=13233
its listed as the adapter for twin HS2 / 4 or will I end up burning loads of oil!!

Re throttle springs etc, I only have 2 on there at the moment but I'll see how it is once its actually running (been off the road for a few weeks now as I've been replacing the brakes with cooper s ones, 10" wheels, adjustable bottom arms / tie bars, hi los, lcb and rc40 etc etc and getting all the bits together and the time to fit them has taken some time!)

All started with a blowing exhaust downpipe and a want for some 10" wheels and ended up here!?!?

Will get some details / pics of the manifold and how the carbs are looking so far later today

Cheers
Ben

Just a note about the carbs.
Are you positive these are HS4 carbs?
You mentioned you're using a twin HS2 manifold with the ports opened up to 1.5".
If thats the case you must have H4 carbs.
HS carbs have the stud holes diaganal from each other....HS2 are vertical....if yours are vertical they would be H4 carbs.

That adapter is for a servo........ And indeed - well spotted - they must be H4 carbs. If you don't arrange some breathing for the crankcase into a carb - you WILL have oil leaks, and nasty smells/fumes in the car.
