have seen a couple of threads of peoples mini being stolen so i though i would make a little thread to tell other people tips to stop your mini being stolen

one i do all the time which is abit obvious is that i put a lock on the handbreak and clamps on the gear stick

the other one my dad told me is that if i have to leave my car in a dodgy place he said take one of the wires off the coil and rest it on so it looks like its attached, the chances are that a theft wont hang around to look under the bonnet

your tips?

if they want it, they will get it.

All tips mentioned wont stop a truck pulling up and winching it on the back.

I am thinking a tracker is becoming one of the best options if you have a valuable mini in terms of money or memories etc. If it does get nicked, at least u can try and find it before its burnt out or stripped and the police might catch them red handed.

Propa boy's they want it they get it no stopping them.

kids best thing 12 quid alarm and find the loudest you can, top notch alarms not much use as there no where secure or awkward enough to locate the brain box.
Quick release steering wheel, no good if your going shopping.
Kill switch to cut out the ignition or battery cut off switch.
The best one give it the worst paint job in the world and they wont touch it lol.

When ever I used to park my mini in a dodgy part of London, I too would would remove the rotor arm from the dizzy and carry it around in my pocket. I figured that even if any "would be theif" did work out what was missing, they would be very unlikely to be carrying around a spare rotor arm with them (unless of course they were also a mini owner who was using the same trick to prevent their own mini from being nicked!)

A little hint though, if you do try this one...... If your bonnet is the internal release type, then dont place your car keys safetly on top of the air filter housing/box of your locked car, whilst you remove the rotor arm from the dizzy. It's way too easy to slam the bonnet shut with the keys still under there and no way of getting to them!! (DOH!)

take the wheels off and put it on bricks, love to see them winch that baby up unless they wish to spend on replacing the hubs and brakes etc.. haha

or just buy a 'this car is fitted with a tracker' sticker

put fake reg plates on it so police will pick up

Because your not letting us learn from your mistakes

Thats sounds like the sort of thing i'd do, lock the keys inder the bonnet whilst tring to remove the rotor arm from an electronic ignition.

(Don't worry i do have some mechanical affinity)

I read somewhere that you can secure one of those cheap payg mobile fones somewhere secret in your car and have it plugged into a charger that is always charging whenever you turn on the ignition. this makes it traceable and I think you have to make a fone call from the fone every six months or something to keep the sim active ?? you could fone a chat line

I've always liked the electric fuel pump on a secret switch. They'll get 100 yards down the road then it'll conk out and they'll just think it's broken down

Best thing to do, although my car got broken into a week or so ago, i feel is just dont give them anything to steal. i stupidly left the front on my head unit as always and of course they wanted that, and tried to take the car but couldnt.

now bought an alarm, and stealthing as much audio as is possible, so all youll see are 2 small speakers in the dash and my head unit.

best tip i have though, is dont have a fabric sunroof.
thats how my car was broken into.
