Its the flat back lorrys that worry me. Theres literally nothing you can do to stop them pulling up alongside and winching it on to the back, aside getting your mini physically impossible to get at. In a lot of the places I park, people would think nothing of a hi-vis jacketed truck driving winching a car on to the back of the lorry, regardless of the alarms going off etc. Anyone would just think it to be the DVLA or similar taking it for tax etc reasons.

I'm fitting a battery isolator in the boot - ( about 25 quid from Deamon Tweeks) The boot is quite hard to break into (compared with the rest of the car).

I'm fitting a switch on the signal wire to the starter and hiding it behind the dashboard as suggested earlier in the thread.

Also I'm fitting a dummy alarm flashing LED (approx 60p from Maplin) to the dashboard. I'm wiring the live to a permanent live and the earth to an ignition live, that way when the ignition is on the light doesn't flash, but when it is off it flashes.

It is pointless fitting a good alarm as it will be really easy to bypass as the wiring on the car is so simple.

Obviously it will still be possible to steal the car and nothing can stop a thief with a truck ... but hopefully it will deter the petty TWOCer.

Thieves who broke into my car simply pulled one edge of the boot and pulled it open.
Dont wire an earth to a live, please :| Use a relay.

And my alarm is behind the dash, and so is most of the wiring, so without first breaking into the car, and completely taking the dash out you cant touch it. You also cannot get to the door, bonnet, or boot switches i have without opening said items first. :D

here's a great tip on how to stop your mini being stolen!

don't drive same way home every night

try park it on a drive with another car into front

when mine was at home it was on the drive, with 2 massive gates, pile of bricks, ford transit and a ford galaxy in front aswell

with a spot light and a cam on it with mum and dads room looking on to it!

yet some git still stole my rocker cover!!
