Looks like a good project!

Maybe practice your welding on some scrap steel before you tackle anything structural, it doesn't take long to get the hang of it :).

I have had some practice on some scrap bits already. Am getting the hang of butt welds and t joints etc. but found it completely different when filling in the holes on my panels. Am looking forward to getting onto the more structural stuff but i will practice more first

Has been a little while but have a bit of an update.

I bought myself a front end off ebay so have cut off the one that was on there as it had seen better days.
Posted Image
Where the a panel joins the hinge panel it has rusted through so i have bought a new panel to replace it.
Posted Image

I also stripped more paint to find more rust

Posted Image
Posted Image
There is also a few holes in the scuttle, rear seat and o/s sill
More pictures to follow

I have started welding on the mini today.

I welded a patch after cutting out the doorstep. Whoever had it before filled the hole in with filler on both doorsteps!
Posted Image
Posted Image

I also welded a patch over my suspension mount.
Posted Image

I welded a patch over a hole in the rear seat.
Posted Image

There was a hole in my scuttle so i have welded this up for the new wings to go on.
Posted Image

While searching around the car i also found holes above the air vent underneath the O/S scuttle :P
Posted Image

Also found more rust on the sills. I hope after i do more digging that no more comes up

So far it seems to be going well :trooper: hope it all carries on as smoothly

There's always more rust, even when you think you've got it all.

Minis ey!

Keep up the good work sir :D.

yeh i know tell me about it when i bought it it was advertised as a rust free shell. It is alot better than some ive seen but definitely not rust free :)

Since the last update i have made and welded in some repair sections for the offside sill. i have also partly welded in a new drivers side floor pan and made up a patch for the other door step.

Made some more slow progress with the welding i have got to do.
I had a few patches on the passenger side door step which needed attention so decided to make a patch for nearly the whole length. This also meant i could add some anti rust stuff on the inside at the back.
Posted Image

I have also repaired the front bottom of both filtch panels as they were looking worse for wear.
Posted Image

There was a hole where the a panel meets the doorstep so i also made a patch for here.
Posted Image

I have also done alot of patching on the sills but not got many photos.
Posted Image

There were big rust issues around the window so this was sorted with more patching!
Posted Image
Posted Image

The hinge panel on the passenger side needed a patch as a hole had formed! still needs to be trimmed down!
Posted Image

The air vent also has a patch now :P but forgot to take pictures

Most of the welds still need work on them such as grinding but it all seems to be coming together slowly. and is good to be able to see what i have achieved so far.

Hiya not had an update on here in a while so thought I would post my progress.
Things have seemed to be going pretty slow but i am liking the fact i am starting to see some progress.
Sorry about the picture quality am using my phone to take the pictures

After taking off the A panels There was no lip left to weld the new one onto i decided to cut away the old panel and fabricate a new piece in to it. This then led me to more rust which meant another patch! here you can also see the patch i made around the vent. Just needs tidying up and a new nut welding into place.

I have now made the patch with the lip however forgot to take photos!

I have debumpered the front panel and after some panel beating and filler this is the result so far

Posted Image

I have primer on the roof, both rear quarter panels, rear panel, part of the bulkhead roof pillars and cross member.

Here you can see how much of a mess the last owner made of the parcel shelf when fitting 6x9s!

I have also primered the boot however it needs alot of work to get it into shape. Lots of filler on it originally but is hard to get in with hammer/dolly to rectify the problems without the filler.

Tommorow i am hoping to get most of the rest of the primering done if not all of it and attach my front panel to get started on attaching the front end.

Havent been on here in a while.
Work has been progressing on the mini, even if it is slow!

I have cut out the badly cut speaker holes and welding in a new plate
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I have also done some more patching in the boot

Most welds have now been ground back and are looking good.
I have also nearly finished debumpering my front panel, Have the dent in the roof fillered and smoothed, 2 A panels Sprayed and ready to be fitted, and filler has been applied to the rear lights section and needs a final smooth. I am sure there is more but i can't remember at the minute.
