A good friend has a mac book pro, he loves it.

You can run windows on them aswell.

Why would you eant to put windows on a mac?? totally defeats the point of getting away from crappy windows

you can run it alongside mac, its so that you can use certain software still!

(dual core 1.83GHz, 2gig ddr2, 200 gig hdd, 4550 grafix card... for HDMI out!)

does it really need to be a laptop?...

the battery will die sooner or later and the longer you use it the more the battery will degrade... yes mac's are pretty good for this sort of work but there expensive and if you upgrade anything apple will void your warranty... and you then have to pay through the nose for all the software...

is there not room for a real computer?

No room for a proper desktop, need something far more portable for when I'm on location etc etc.

Appreciate that it won't be quite the same as a desktop, but there's nowhere to plug it into in the middle of a field :D

Considered a mac, but I'm far more familiar with windows stuff, and since the software im working with at uni is PC based, I'm probably best off sticking with windows.

Have a look on MESH Computers - I've never dealt with the Laptop side of things but have been running my desktop for well over three years now and up to now have not had a problem. My mate has one which is still going strong after close to nine years!

no offence... but mesh are poo... they're just a mall version of dell... there not a very good brand, its nice to hear of people that have bought pc's of them that work past the 1st 6months let alone past the 12month warranty!

avoid pc world too (currys is the same shop) they have no idea what they're talkin about and are all about try to make profit from idiots...

...HP laptops are ok but their customer support is 2nd to none!

my choice would be toshiba!.. ive owned a fair few in the past (new/2nd hand) and they're just so... so... well simple!..

compatibility is never a problem, drivers are always easy to find, rugged, out last pretty much every laptop ive ever seen

get yourself a nice 17" laptop with an in car adaptor too
