No, its chopping the outside rim off, welding a band of steel in the same size as the wheel then welding the outside rim back on, thus making it wider.banding alloys is bassically making them in to split rims from what i understand

You can only band steels. Banding is, as has been said several times above, widening steel wheels by cutting them in half and adding extra steel to the middle, then welding them back up again. It's not something to be done at home, and should only be attempted by a workshop properly equipped with some kind of mechanical welder, so the added steel is fixed with a continuous seam weld, otherwise they can be quite dangerous.

or you can get a wheel rerimmed
this is where you cut the centre off you wheel and refit it to a wider rim
this wheel was a 5.5x14 VW steel wheel, now it's a 8x15 inch wheel

You can also band ALLOY wheels. As said before though, leave it to a pro.

Yeah i've seen that before, was gunna do it until i found that banding isnt actually illegal.Jeezo never seen that before Bungle!
