I'm just starting a vtec conversion with Matt,
We looked at all sorts of costs before we started to guage a rough estimate of how much it would set us back... weve been into it a mere month or two, getting on with fixing rust and chopping off the front etc, but even now weve had a few unexpected costs at this early stage. Neither of us have done anything like this before, I've restored my own mini and had a helping hand in doing my brothers, but never touched an engine conversion :D

I think my only advice would be to shop around, and give everything a go yourself. If you cant do it, theres always people on all the forums that can and have, and im sure plenty are willing to give a guy a hand and advice if hes willing to throw himself in there and give it a go!

The other thing, simply from looking around and shopping about on the internet weve managed to get some of the major components at stupidly low prices! jsut because people need rid and put it on ebay etc....

for eg.. engine spec...

D16z6 Engine...
Vitara Pistons
Eagle Rods
ACL Race Main Bearing
...ACL Race Conrod Bearing
ARP Head Studs/Bolts
Notched Block
Carbon Filter Removed - Barb Fitting Fitted
B16 Throttle Body
Port and Polished Head
Valves Have Been Cleaned and Lapped With New Oil Seals Fitted.
brand New Alternator, Clutch, and Flywheel

The guy also chucked in a close ratio gear box, wiring loom, water pump and lord knows how many other parts for free, just because we had a little chat with him and let him know what we were up to....

It only set us back £455 and that included the shipping costs from scotland to oxford on a pallet!!

As for the subframe we got a custom made one for £250ish, which uses mini mounting points but is all sorted and ready for out engine. We checked out peoples reviews and they all rave about them, i cant remeber the name of the company though!

Any way Good luck! Im sure youll really enjoy it and look forward to seeing your progress on a project thread!! :)
