Whats the best material for making your own dashboard, and of what thickness??

wel the thickness of a standard wooden dash is about 3 quarters of an inch (ish!!)
u could make it from anything at all really, just depends what u want to cover it in

Most people use MDF

I used MDF which was then covered in stuffing material (prob ment for a teddy!) then over that a good fake black leather, stapled at the back, looks great if i may say so myself!

I did not make mine but i got it made out of curved sheet metal.

MDF is not good when its wet so be aware.

Mine (i didn't make it or buy it.. it was in the car already!) is made out of ply for most of it but the bit where the clocks are is made of MDF and has fallen apart somewhat! Glued back together but the wood has expanded so is not going back in!

mdf with blackboard paint then varnished over should be fine if you leave it bare it absorbs moisture and it if gets wet expands considerably.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, so i think i might use MDF

i just used the one i had in it (horrible fake walnut thing) primed it and painted it in the same body colour as the car

looks amasing so might be worth sourcing a taty one off flebay and tarting it up, IMO looks alot better than covering it in material
