By looking in Mini related mags or anything specialised then your chances of finding a nice min for a grand is unlikely. People who are into the mini scene always want the most they can get for them and know more about their value. You have a better chance looking in Loot or local classifieds, or even a local dealer may have one...if they don't know too much about them then the price will not be as high - their value is worked out on how much the car is worth based on everyday motoring in comparison with other cars, with possibly a little added on for being a Mini. People in the Mini scene base their value almost entirely on the fact that it's a Mini.

If you lower your standards and look for a nice 1 litre mini, then you have a much better chance. People on ebay are always selling 998's that need a little attention for under a grand, and the insurance will be A LOT nicer than for a 1275 - do a quick run through on Tesco.com insurance and you'll have an excellent idea of quotes, i doubt you'll get better for a standard/near standard mini.

You really have to be careful though, rust goes further than the eye can see, and you really need to have a good poke around.

Insuring a Mini at 17 will be pretty much the same wheather you are insuring an 850 auto, Or a 1275 Cooper.

I had a 1300i Rover mini and it was £650 to insure for me, At 17, Fully comp.

I converted this to my 998 I have now, And they said it is the same, so they cant send me a re-bate or anything.

Thats not really true Binge, a 1275 Cooper has 3 or 4 times the amount of power a 850 has, you will pay more for one! Plus a Cooper is usually about a group 8, whereas 850 and 998s are usually a group 2.

You wouldn't of paid much for your 1300 because is was an auto, and they are usually a bit cheaper. You'll be paying the same on your 998 as even though its less powerful, you have a bodykit on it and its been modified more.
