what engine have you?
I have in the past removed the oil filter conection pipe and let oil in the hole in the block turning the engine backwards slowly, screwed it all back together and off you go

1380 a series turbo. i took the banjo off, syringed down some engine oil, push the car backwards in second gear about 10 feet a couple of times then 20 feet a couple and after each push reconnected the banjoed pipe and still nothing on crank. can you describe how much oil to put in and how many revolutions backwards to turn the engine etc. and is it possible to put the oil pump on the wrong way?

Is this a new installation, or has it just not been started for a while?

Assuming it's a new installation, did you prime the pump before installing it? Have you put the O-ring seal between the engine and box? Is the pressure relief valve jammed open? Is the ball-bearing valve in the oil filter housing jammed open?

Lots to check.

plugs are removed and i'm cranking for about 15 seconds, dont want to do it much longer with the new bearings on the cranck only being hand lubed.

yes new installation, did not prime pump before installing, O ring installed, dont know how to tell if the PRV is open but took it apart and all looks well, and i have not checked ball bearing valve as i never knew there was 1, shall check it now but its not just oil pressure i'm lacking its the actual oil itself as i've taken the oil guage off its hose to see if i could get a trickle and nothing. really dont want to have to strip this engine again!

15 seconds is too short it will be more like 5mins before you get oil pressure up, try putting oil in the filter as well redo the oil pump with oil

i thought 5 mins with no oil arround new shell bearings would wreck them but i'll give it a go, cheers

i doubt it will take 5mins. Most its ever taken my engines as been approx 30-45 secs, cranking with plugs out on a full charged battery.

i cant remember fitting the pump, is it possible to fit the wrong way round or will the screw holes not allow it?

I dont think you can fit it the wrong way, but you can fit the gasket wrong i believe!

I have known someone build an engine with the pump not in the camshaft slot, so the pump was not turning. I wouldn't keep turning the engine over for 5 minutes, should take a few seconds really.

You can't put the pump on upside down, no.

the last engine that i had to help becouse they did not prime the pump/filter/ cooler when putting it together took in total about 5 mins he had to turn the engine over a few times before the pressure came up. if you forgot the gasket between oil pump and block maybe a problem.

By pushing it as far as you did, you probably pumped all the oil you poured into it straight through and into the sump. You don't need to rock it very far to get the oil from the port you are pouring it through into the pump, the pump is very efficient. Simply turning it back one revolution by hand will do the job.

Filling the oil filter is much more important. The pressure tapping is in the main gallery, oil can't get there until the filter has been filled and it takes a long time to fill that at cranking speed.
