resurrecting an old post here but......how do you know when the oil has reached the pump and its primed? and you have oil pressure? i do not have an oil pressure gauge apart from the oil pressure warning light.

Thanks,

When the light goes out, it's at pressure. Pretty low pressure, but it has some.

You don't really, but the pump is not far from the banjo bolt and there is nowhere else for oil to go. If you pour some down there it will be primed. This isn't something I've ever found to be a problem myself, but some people do seem to. Pre-fill the oil filter, take out the plugs and spin it a few times on the starter just for a few seconds at a time. The lamp will go out pretty soon, once it has give it a few longer spins to get some real pressure into it.
