Hi, just a quick query - has anyone fitted a diesel engine into a Mini? Something like a Dci (1.5 turbo diesel) from the likes of a Renault Clio or Nissan Micra.
It's seems ideal - good mpg, not too big, good torque, easily remapped to approx 100bhp. Problem is I have no idea if it's feasible.
Dci Engines?

thought about it loads, cant see why its not feasible.
Met a guy running a metro? diesel engine, he said he was getting good MPG and performance due to less weight in his mini than the car it was taken from.
Think you will need to uprate the fuel lines, also may need to change the tank - diesels dont work well with some petrol tanks, due to the fuel moving and air getting in.Most diesel tanks have a lowered sump where the feed is taken from to prevent this.

I've always wanted to do this. there penty that would fit, Rover diesel out of the 25 maybe? is this the same size as the normal k series? maybe the vauxhall turbo diesel out of the vectra? again is this the same size as the redtop?
There is plenty of diesel minis over in australia. Heard somewhere theres a bloke running a dahatsu charade diesel in a moke, hes got an lpg conversion, and 2 massive tanks and apparently he gets about 2000 miles odd on one tanks of fuel, if memeory serves correctly :S

Ive heard of the 3 cyl charade diesel engines been used too.
The vaux 1.7 diesel isnt the best engine for power vs weight in my eyes. Though ive only ever driven vectras, astras and astra vans with this engine, it could be a beast of an engine in a lighter mini.
Should be plenty of engines around, upto 1600cc diesels, but its probally not gunna be a off the shelf conversion as such. So custom frames, driveshafts etc.

PS. Im sure the bloke with the metro diesel engine was from over manchester/cumbria way somewhere.

DCI would need all the engine management system transferring over as it's a common rail engine. What about something like a 1.5TD from a Corsa B, (isuzu engine) I know they're very tuneable and go like stink in Nova's with the feuling and boost turned up. Simple mechanical pump, only really need the starter motor, alternator and glow plug relay wired up and you're away

Is the vectra diesel engine the same size as the redtop? if so couldnt you just use the redtop subframe from say allspeed. the driveshafts from allspeed aswell would be plenty surely?
I would love to stick a honda v6 diesel or something in the back of a mini (zcars style) and slap 2 turbo's on it

There is a guy who lives near me that has just finished putting a Peugeot 1.5 DI in his Clubman estate. Really tidy job, you,d almost think that it left the factory like that.

I drove a 1.9 megane dci today, pulls like a train, gearbox is sooo nice, can change it like a dog box haha So smooth compared to driving a mini, I kept forgetting I was driving a car

I've always fancied the 1.5 out of a pug i've got a MK1 pug 106 with the diesel engine and it's not a bad engine, but could do with a bit more poke, i think a diesel mini sounds like a great idea but i don't know why turning a mini to use the devils fuel sorta makes me say yes and no at the same time. Be good to see though

I'm very tempted to try a VW PD engine into a mini; 8v so ok size but a 150bhp could be remapped to near 200bhp, there's a 130 and 115 hp engines too (I have a 115 in my Golf with a remap and it goes very well in a heavy Golf!)
This would make a fast, economical mini!! Anyone done this??
