have you tried places like Augusta-Westland, BAE etc, what are you qualifications?

I'm doing an apprenticship for QinetiQ after 2 years at college doin maths and physics A levels, most companies, unless you have a lot of experience will want to re train you as such.

I work at Agusta-Westland

Rolls Royce have a site in Derby dont they?, is that much of a trek from MK?

if not pop in and see what they can offer, obviously the apprentice recruiting period has finished for this year, but they might be able to offer you something.

I'll say RR have a site in Derby - 10,000 staff.

According to The industry Forum and the SABC, there are over 10,000 companies who supply to the big boys like Aircelle, RR, GOODRICH, AEC, RR, BAE, GKN, Airbus, Parker, Eaton, ITP, ASSYSTEM, TRW, etc

I'm a contractor and on a nine month project at Derby that finishes in October, but hoping for an extention. Agencies I've used in the past include : Morson, Alex Mann, MPI but there are loads out there. Look at going temp, as the money is good, and the work out there. Remember that RR have just launched the trent 1000 for the Boeing Dream Liner and are in the middle of the biggest engine they've ever done for airbus, and they are looking to increase capacity by erm lots of %.

If you need a place to stay Derby is cheap, and my landlord is trying to rent out a double for £300 a month.

QinetiQ take on people every year although there intake numbers are dropping due to lack of funding but they still take people on and its a pretty good apprenticship, and you work on Military and MOD aircraft.

QinetiQ are currently going through a consultation period with the union about making 700 odd staff redundant, again!!!

Any particular reason why you won't consider the Armed Forces? I know it isn't for everyone, but at the moment the Aviation Industry like many Engineering industries is suffering. Never say never. It'd get you some experience s well.

dont want to go into the forces. im struggling to find any one who will take on any apprentaships

Not being funny, but make sure someone (who can read) checks any application you do, because whilst the spelling police don't care about the internet these days, they are usually employed in HR departments, to check that you are worthy.

On the subject of Armed Forces, the MOD and I'm thinking DSG who rebuild tanks in Telford, have a good apprenticeship and their own training school.

http://www.dsg.mod.uk/default.asp

If you are interested I may have the mobile numbers of a couple of production managers who might point you in the right direction.

It's not the armed forces, but there is a military feel, due to the security (and the products) They have quite a few sites, and some do aircraft.

its also worth noting that apprenticeships with us get iro 300 applicants a year for 8 places. So your applications got to be pretty tip top. Oh and an amazing amount of HR departments will even check up on your facebook aswell
