i have a 1992, 1275 carb rover mini sprite which has done around 45k miles, with a stage one induction kit on, and it i will soon have a stage 3 head with 1.5 rocker rollers on it and i wanted to upgrade the cam, i've done research on them, and i think its now between the Kent 276 and the SW5-07, and i would like advice on which would be recommened or indeed any other cam, i'm new to the forum so if i'm asking in the wrong area i appologise.

thanks alot Joe

You do realise it's engine out job to change cam ? These are two very different cams that you list - I would definitely go for the 276 and NOT the SW5 - and flog the daft high lift rockers !

i used to run a 276 cam, in a 1330, i thought it was a very good road cam, fairly sooth idle, and would reccomend it, although ive changed to a piper 649+ race cam as a result of my addiction, lol. if im right the sw5-07 is similar to the kent 286?

if your going to change the cam i would go for the 286 and standard rockers, no need for silly ratio rockers if your going to go to the trouble of changing the cam imho.

I feel a heated debate coming on

If you've already got high lift rockers then you are going to get more than you can from a cam alone if you choose the right cam that was designed for them - Something from Swift tune. Just don't overdo the valve springs and it is an engine strip job as you need new cam followers.

no, the SW10 is more like the 286, the SW5 is somthing like a 266 (I think), never looked into the SW5, I just know it's no where near that lumpy.

sw5 very good road cam - nice spread of torque and is lovely to drive.
short duration, high lift, gives a smooth idle and no problems at MOT with emissions...

I would certainly go for the SW5 if I was you, very very good on emissions and torque, and is a very smooth camshaft. Leave the 1.5's on there it will give you a little bit more at the top end, the swifty cams are very well complemented by higher ratio rockers.

roller tip rockers a bit like marmite, I was told by everyone I was mad to fit them but I ignored as they were too shiny for me to resist! they can be a waste of time in a alot of cases but I definatly got a worth while power increase from my 1.5.1s. 1.5.1 rockers are meant to work well with the SW5-07 from what I've heard.
