and antifreeze does not make the boiling point rise , just stops it from boiling .... you want water wetter that makes the boiling point higher

Went by my friend Iain's place for a tea and a blether after the Thistle Run run home and mentioned to Stuart there that the car was still overheating.
So I got Mini wiring diagrams, he got his meter and we set about hunting for a cable/connection problem.
He figured out quickly that the relay was fine (being new it should have been) but he realised too that the green/black cable which is a feed out from the ECU was a problem. No signal was getting from the ECU end to the relay to tell it to switch on. The temperature sensor and it's wiring was also proven to be fine.
Next was knowing the suspect cable, so we got the ECU out and opened the loom to look for problems. 3 cables were discovered that had earths running into the ECU which were completely shot. So got them sorted. They had literally turned to dust... but this wasn't the fan problem!
Every wiring diagram showed the green/black cable being a single line from ECU to Relay, yet testing the relay to the ECU showed no flow of current, so of course we were then thinking 'broken cable'...then on ONE of lots of diagrams of the same system, we noticed a wee circular symbol in the line of the cable indicating some sort of connection... turns out that to the left of the fan relay, there is a multiplug that breaks a whole host of cables. 2 pins inside were again totally dust and wrecked, as water had been getting in somehow and corroding away. One of which was this green cable, one was something else, can't remember what. It wasn't clear at all from looking at the route of the cables that this multiplug was part of that system.
Up-shot of it all is that by bridging and bypassing some problem parts the fan's now working a treat, no overheating, have a near-on whole new system I didn't need to get and to top it all off, the car is now going an absolute dream!! Obviously the ECU earthing problems degrading and this multi-plug degrading have slowly been making my engine worse and worse... not any more.
Hopefully this info may help some of you who have a similar problem.
Thanks all for your help!

mines having issues with the rad fan coming on too, and causing it to overheat.
Mine is just wired permanent now as well for the meantime.
Do you have a pic of this multiplug, thats to the left?
