I own a 1275 MPi mini copper that has deveolped a starting problem. The car was running fine until recently, now when i turn the key to start nothing happens.

I have tried replacing the battery as i have had problems with this before on this car, i have also checked all the fuses. I recently replaced the started motor on the vehcile but it has been running fine with the new one on.

The body work under the windscreen (mainly where the alarm ecu is) has completely rusted away so i think that the alarm ecu has got moisture in it and is therefore knackered.

I'm wonering if anyone has any other ideas as to what the problem could be or if anyone has experienced anything similar, i don't want to replace the ecu's until i have to.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

no, nothing happens when i turn the key to start.

the only other time something like this happened i had tripped the inerthia switch which is what has lead me to believe the ecu is fried.

Does anything else electric work - such as lights, radio, etc and do dashboard lights light up even though no cranking? There is a feed from the battery to a connection at the starter motor that then feeds a whole lot of other services, such as the ignition key... poor connection there means variable lack of starting.

as far as i can tell it does, the red LED goes out, but i dont know of anything else on the car that could cause this fault.

Problem solved :( . Turns out the soleniod on my 'new' starter motor was faulty.

Thanks to everyone for their help.
