Heya all,

I have seen some old ones and repros on ebay, they seem to indicate the disc was held down by a large hex head bolt through the wheel retention cup, My hold down however is a larged pressed steel hand wheel topped bolt through the cup. I plan to blast and paint this for my mini, just wondering if it's an early thing, or those bolts they display is less accurate.

I would take a picture but my hold down is lost in my festiva... or at moms house at the moment, I know I have it as I had seen it a week ago quite happily :)

I seem to remember it was cost reduced down to the bolt type version and then eliminated altogether on later Minis so the wheel just sat on the boot floor unsecured.

Now the question, the grove cut in the top, should this be a circlip or a circlip and spring or something? This seems too short to fit with the wheel facing up and too long with the wheel facing down, almost like there should be something taking up a bit of space.

I've never seen one like that - my Mk1's have a simple bolt through the disk.

What age is your mini ? I know the very early ones did have some interesting details - dont recall this being one of them though

I dont have a heritage slip but believe it's early january 1960 with a vin that I believe of 143xx. The car does have some interesting bits about it, I just found the fuel tank retention strap nuts and the battery box nuts are brazed on 6 point nuts instead of spot welded 4 side trapped nuts tonight. I plan to retain that minor minor detail Heh. Also have an Oct 1959 datecode windshield wiper.. that I need to find a new armature for :) Jan 1960 datecode ignition and orig doors. Non suction cup interior mirror. Deluxe square hole hubcaps, some brake backing plates with rivited adjusters though I swapped the front for dual leading shoe units 12 or so years ago. And one rivited wheel... that I 'broke' the center out of exiting the dmv many years ago... yet I keep anyways! :D
