I work with in the motortrade and i can tell you that at our dealership we had 6 minis taken in by the scrappage scheme. We also had another 5 at our other dealership in the group a total of 11 classics scrapped. It is quite easy to add it up. As i said earlier Synter Oldbury saved a mint Paul smith from the crusher. All the ones we had in ranged from knackered to mint, so i should say it would be easy to get the figures from HM Goverment if you asked. Can I ask a simple question? If classic owners hate the MINI why are so many owners putting MINI parts on there cars? Such as rear lights cooper s bonnet scoop, bmw mini wings logo, seats etc seems ******* it off but ok To use it's parts. Plus how come many classic only clubs use the MINI wings logo in there club banners and not the classic wings logo? You can't have your cake and eat it can you?
Is this a case of pot kettle black?
Not all classic owners hate the Bini. I've seen a few with Mini parts but not many. What classic only clubs are using the MINI wing logo ? Talk about tar us all with the same brush. I think your getting a little desperate.

Note also the classic Mini involved was traded into the MINI Dealer by its owner for scrap as were hundreds and possibly thousands of other taxed and MOT'd Minis last year..........so not such an iconic car to those owners then!!
Not everyone that has a mini are into them for some it's just a car like for some the Bini is just a car. Can I ask were you got the information that 100s if not 1000s of mini's were scraped during the scrapage scheme.

I'm not the one stating it's 100's and 1000s. I know 330,000 new cars sales were made and 200 micras were traded in the first month. As it's been pointed out already, you may have missed it -

To be quite frank, putting BMW Mini exterior parts on a classic Mini isn't that pretty.
And there aren't that many Bini engine swapped Minis about either...
The most commonly used Bini part in the classic scene is the MINI winged badge, and that's not common.
I would say the most commonly used New MINI part on classic Minis is actually the MINI Cooper S Supercharger unit.
Loving that whine!

I have had the plesure of meeting many a famous person to do with the mini John Sheppard one of the minis design team with sir Alec himself. He informed me that Sir Alec hated the clubman mini when the front end changed and wanted nothing to do with it as it was not a mini as he had deisgned anymore, also John Rhoddes famous 60s race driver who in the interview for the new mini mag online that they had to hide any mods they did on their cars as Sir Alec hated any mods to the mini, in fact any mods to the mini made it not a mini to him anymore
Really?
I know there were more politics involved in Issigonis and Lord Stokes, basically Issigonis himself said he only cared about design, not modification, but was well for the advancement of the car, he had disagrement with Moutlton over Hydrolastic, when it was removed he was enraged that the car wasn't being developed to it's fullest... I find what you've said difficult to believe.
I think John might be getting confused with ADO88 which Alec hated, and the X9 which is why the mini got a clubman front, Alec designed the X9, the whole reason the Clubman came out because of "insurance" reasons on Coopers, but we all know it was so Stokes could stop paying John Cooper royalites on his name.
Alec was an avid racing fan, again I'm not sure you've got good sources...

He could be wrong and he could be right, i will ask him again when he pops into our local pub to have a chat and make sure. But having spent nearly 3 hours talking about every aspect of the mini from the ground up hje might of got things mixed, but i do know that when JR was racing for the factory team things had to be hidden. Got it on audio if youd like a copy.

Sounds like an interesting conversation, I'm ok for the audio but thanks for the offer, I've had the pleasure of meeting Moulton, it's great to hear (as I would put it) one side of a story!
In a way I can see what JR meant about Alec...
