When i got up this morning, i felt like going on the mini forum for a quick look before i went to work, but then realised by the time i started the laptop up and so on it would be time to go to work, then i thit me is there a app for this forum??

ive had a look and cant seem to see one anywere, Wouldnt it be a good idea to have one made for the forum setup say abit simular to the facebook app were it loads new replies up and stuuf, plus it could be a good way for the forum to make some extra funds? sell it in the appstore im sure all of us who use the forum would buy it if the price was right, or include it as a free download when you join up to the +member status.

anyway just a idea i had and just thought id share it.

This has been topic of conversation quite a few times before.

There is a "forum reading" app out there that is compatible, but the forum is running an older version of the software. At present, there are no plans to upgrade.

This should really be in the forum feedback section I think - i'll suggest to the other mods that it's moved :(

you can just go on your internet on the iphone then what ever site you want, then press the + at the bottom and say add to home page, this gives you a shortcut to the site :(

As above, you can set a shortcut on your home page for TMF - we had approached this when last mentiond but as stated we are currently on the older version of the board software. we're currently working towards upgrading once we have renewed our subscription but it will not be an instant thing.

Only today I was talkin to my computing teacher about app development. An app for TMF has been on my mind since I joined. At the moment its still in the thought stages but with some help at school and permissions from Admin on here im prepared to have a go at an app for the iPhone. Let me know what you think and if it would be worth it or not

The marvelous thing is, when we do upgrade to the new software, it has a built in mobile skin, so you'll be able to browse to the forum on your phones browser and everything will be scaled properly to still be easy to view.

I'm aiming to have this done before the end of the year :).

I don't believe a dedicated application would provide much benefit over the mobile skin which will be introduced with the new software as at best, the application would be just another browser, except it'd only access TMF, which seems a waste of time to me.

Erm, there is an App. It's called Safari and it's an amazing thing that displays literally any web page you want!
:)

Come on now, you don't have a special programme for the forum on your laptop or other PC do you? You use a web browser like anyone else. In fact if your home computer is an Apple it's likely your web browser might just be called Safari. Funny that.

Never? Really i must be behind with the times in the technology dept.

it was just an IDEA maybe to raise some cash for the site and also have a simple format so not to have your fone downloading every part of the screen using up your data usage allowance, but as it as been put in previous there wouldnt be much point due to the forum being updated to a new version which as a mobile version built in.

The bottom of every page has a button marked 'Lo-Fi version'.

Personally I find it easy enough to view on the 3GS without zooming, but then everyone is different. As said though, the new version will be smart enough to know what you are viewing on.

I'm using a samsung galaxy S (andriod) and I don't have any problems what so ever viewing the forum using it's standard browser on it's 3g connection when I'm out, just seems 100% pointless to me. Especially as smart phones are getting more powerfull, before you know where you are there will be smart phones with dual core. I don't even use the ebay apps or anything like that, there's no point, although the ebay seller app on the iphone is good. What percentage of TMF uses actually have a iphone though... and how many of them would be happy just using safari rather than paying for app that they don't need
