Minidivision just built me a 1293. goes well and had no problems.

It is important not to get carried away by bhp figures as it depends on what the car is to be used for. For hill-climbing, racing or sprinting, a 100 bhp engine will not be good enough. For Historic Rallying it would be OK. For road use the torque curve is much more important as that determines the driveability, unless, of course, you want to drive about at 5000 rpm to 7000 rpm all the time on the roads, in which case you may not keep your licence for very long ;D .
An ideal road engine will probably have standard gear ratios, about 85 to 90 bhp and oodles of torque from about 2600 rpm right up to 5000 rpm. Check out the cam graphs on the Kent website.
