I did a trip from Market Drayton shropshire, to Bright (280 mile trip) using the motorway in the middle of June a couple of years ago. Took 5 hours.

I would advise you to give it a good checking over (fluids, lights, tyres etc). If Its a warm day then keep an eye on the temperature gauge and if it starts rising too high then ease off a bit and try putting the heaters on to help the cooling system out. Better to be a bit late than on the back of a tow truck. Be prepared to be over taken by pretty much everything and plan a stop every couple of hours for you and the mini (police advise this anyway for any journey). Also if its wet out side the mini is most likely to steam up a lot and it will be noisy.

A mini will do it at a good 65 mph constantly. A long trip can be a lot of fun but I wouldn't want to do it every day in 998.

Mine would sit at any speed up to about 90 as long as you wanted. Never had any problems at all on motorways although the revs did sit quite high!

998 City E's aren't that fun on the motorway. They have a lower final drive than normal City's i believe?

City E' have a longer final drive (2.9), which is designed to be better on the longer trip, ok they don't have much in the way of grunt, but stick at 60 and you'll get to where you're going without hassle...

I'm going from Northampton to Anglesey in a couple of months and, despite the noise, I have no worries about sitting on the motorway the whole time.
Did L2B this year and came back up the M1, again, perfectly fine.

The only problem is... motorway driving is SO boring!

I had a standard Mini 998cc with low miles it liked 70mph best. You could fit an oil cooler or extra electric fan to help cool it.The window mist is a big problem above in the winter i used a bit of washing up liquid on the inside of the windows to stop it that works an old tip. :)

il have you know me and my 998 was rarely overtaken on the way home from MITP infact i did most of the overtaking :P

and that was with a mini FULL very literally with camping gear and a gazeebo and my own gas bottle and posh grill and all sorts

>_<

only thing that did overtake me was a big TVR...and to be fair the guy looked over smiled and gave me a thumbs up as if to say nice one

My city e 998 with a stage 1 kit fitted will do 80mph all day long.
Do not understand why so many mini owners stick to 60mph on the motorway ???

70mph in a standard 998cc mini on a long trip is best for car.I did drive faster and had more to replace like Time Chain and heads etc.

My 998 auto takes me between Dundee (uni) and Bournemouth (home) every month or so. Thats 9 1/2 hours of 70mph straight. Never overheated or broken down (touchwood). The seats are comfee-er than my girlfriends astra
