Hi all,

Realising today that i may not be able to insure either of my cars, and am basically looking at getting another mini as a cheap and cheerful run-around until i can afford something bigger and more practical again. Just wondered what sort of prices people have been quoted for insurance on a NON-modified mini.

I paid £320 or so for mine TPFT, wondered if prices have gone up recently as i've been having trouble getting cheap insurance on my other cars :D

Sorry if this doesnt make much sense!

Dan

I got a quote for £400 ish fully comp on a standard 998 Mayfair.

I'm 20, with 3 years NCB, in a good postcode area.

Insurance is REALLY high at the moment. A month ago i was quoted £600 fully comp, but when i actually insured a week ago, the cheapest price i could find was £775!

Apparently prices have just had a massive hike.

This does not bode well for me... :-

I currently run a lowered VW scirocco, and have just finished getting my rally spec nissan running and moving. Both appear to be prohibitively too expensive to insure now. Dam the recession!

they are right. was told by my insurance company that due to extended winter the number of accidents and claims made had a knock on effect with insurance. this rise was also due to people claiming on their house insurance, leaks etc and no win no lose cases. one of my car insurance went up £86.

You may think it's haha but it is illegal and classed as fraud by the insurance companies. Both you and your father could find yourselves without any cover if you have an accident. I suggest you read these articles carefully and reconsider your choice of policy.

I tend to agree with Topaz. Insurance companies are getting extremely keen at finding people (especially young drivers) who are playing the system illegally.

I'v heard of companies taking action against young drivers who are named drivers on their parents policy, but are the only drivers of the car in reality and do 99% of the miles (don't ask me how).

They get left with no cover, have to pay the full premium and then there may be legal procedings too.

Insurance companies are getting sticter and stricter as the know lots of people defraud the system and they're also getting more and more wise to catching these people.

At the end of the day its people who play the system who cause higher premiums for everyone else. Just be honest. Its worth it in the long run, especially if the worst happens and you end up crashing. Chances are the insurance company will find out the reality of the situation and you'll end up with no insurance at all...

Well Im 23 my mini was insured a year ago at £800.

This was with 0 NCB as its my second car all this aswell after having a head on collision in my main car (not my fault) and a month earlier being knocked off my Motorcycle again not my fault both premiums have reduced since then when renewed.

Funny thing is I have a High Performance motorcycle (owned 2 years and does 0 - 60 in 3.2seconds) a 56 plate Fiesta 1.4 Zetec and the 1275 mini. The motorcycle is the cheapest to insure and the mini the most expensive.

As for second drivers. It can be just as cheap to have you named as the main driver and your parents as a second driver. I believe that is legal (please point out if I am worng) as you will be doing most of the driving.

Some insurance companies also take no consideration for parents as main drivers (they know what you are up to). As a second driver with the parent as a main driver or insuring on your own the premiums can still be the same.
