got myself a section 59 tonight. I was doing handbrake turns and things in a carpark, returning to my youth, the car park was completely empty and there was not anything to crash into, had been there for about 15 minutes playing around, then a police car came in, obviously saw me, on went the blues and twos, i stopped and parked into a parking space, the officers got out and asked what i thought i was doing, i tell them, i know im being a bit of a male chicken, i just got carried away as i havent driven the mini in a loooong while. To cut a long story short, they gave me a section 59, and told me, if i am caught or even reported for using my vehicle in anti-social manner again they will confiscate it!

Anyone else had a similar issue? Also where am i ok to "practice manouvers"? Can i appeal against the order?

I thought you'd purchased a 1959 Mini at first... what on earth is a Section 59?

i got caught riding one of those minimoto things a few years ago and got one, and i must confess, ive got one on my mini at the moment, got caught doing reverse flicks and sliding round a mini roundabout, police saw quite a few of my usual playtime that night, lol, it only lasts a year, but it is a right pain, as it shows up on the police computer thing, so i normally have them following me for a few miles, trying to find a reason to tug me.

As for wheres ok to do stuff like that, i believe that if you get the landowners permission, there is sweet f a they can do about it, other than watch, haha. I know a few large open tarmac spaces around near me, that are pretty much in the middle of nowhere, so i know wheres good to do things.

Find a local car club that runs auto-tests and do one.

Great fun!

You could try but don't think you've got a leg to stand on though, i'd just accept it and stay sensible for a year

to be honest dude, its not worth winging about it, they couldve done a lot worse, just be sensible and as said, look into autotesting if you enjoy doing handbrake turns and fun stuff, you can do it a standard road car, dont need anything special.

No. There is no right of Appeal, it goes on the word of the officer. and it's final. Pistonheads regularly have threads about it, which got kind of boring so I stopped going there.

Best thing to do is autotests.

Yes, I think you can appeal against the order. It might tell you how and where on the paperwork somewhere, otherwise give the police a call and ask them who you contact.

I do know someone that was given one for doing something similar on private land. He appealed and, because he had the owners permission to be there (and the poice didn't), his was rescinded.

To be honest though you've not got much chance if you were on a public car park.

Who were you causing alarm, distress or annoyance to? You said the car park was empty. If it was just the police officers present, then I would appeal it.

Putting it that way it is true that no one was there and if no one called it in it wasn't distressing anyone...
