Myself and Chipster both run the "cheapo" chinese ebay 40mm rads. Nothing wrong with them (finds piece of wood)
They fit perfect, look the part and do what they are supposed to and we drive em like we stole em.. in the right enviroment of course.

Personally i'd take the gamble on them every time, at 60 odd quid it'l last just as long as the 140 quid if you look after it, the same as anything.

:)

As this thread has resurrected....... ;)

Forget everything i said... :o Both of our rads have since burst at the core.... Literally.. Both developed hairline cracks down the cores.
Under inspection (poking with a screwdriver) the cores are like fag paper, the fag paper is probably stronger to be honest.
Lesson learned.. Pay the extra.

:)

 *for no reason than i just found it*

The 'chinese' ebay rads have a hit-n-miss reputation even with hybrid engine swaps, seems some last and some don't........

As Lee said, you get what you pay for

As Lee also said, thread resurrection!

Hello again everyone,

I've watched this thread for the last couple of days, glad to see that our radiator is still in your minds.

We will soon be supplying a new and improved radiator exclusively to a major distributor who you guys will all be well aware of ;-) Until then we still have some stock of the existing design and so I'm happy to offer a 15% discount for all purchases through our web shop.

You can gain the 15% discount by using the code 15OFF at the checkout on our webshop.

A link to the radiator page is http://store.thermex...diator-29-p.asp

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to ask

Paid through the nose for mine from minispeed but I have had no issues and it works, and works well

One rule of thumb BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sold those rads at the IMM 2010 and they went to spain in 2011 I asked the gent at the IMM 2011 if the rads are ok he reckons they are worth every penny a mate got the Ebay China job and it did not last the summer the welds came undone and the core split.) so what you saved you can put into that new engine you might need later.

Buy British guys and girls

exactly

I would rather spend 150 and know my engine wont detonate then go and fit one of the chinese ones and risk destruction

many f1 manifolds are made in the UK so i have much more trust in buying a UK made radiator

Unless youre particularly after that horrible shiny polished aluminium look theyre not worth the money. IMO ofcourse.
They dont save you any weight because theyre larger capacity so you end up with more water that actually adds weight and you dont get any extra cooling from it.
I run a Radtec and really wouldnt buy anything other than a Minispares 2 core in future

Paul, can you please explain why you don't get any extra cooling. Doesn't more water going through the radiator mean more cooling?
Why do you suggest the 2 core and not the 3 or 4 core?

On mine and others I know of the alloy rad just didnt make any difference to engine temperature and 2 core is generally regarded as the top rad on the market by most of us serious tuners

Had a Radtec and I agree Paul, the issue is the thickness of the rad. the fan(s) cannot cool any better because they cannot get the air though. This was certainly the case for my side mounted rad (mt differ for front mounts). I now run a minispares 2 core as well.

Thanks!

Is there a way I can check what I have now? I know it's an uprated one, but not sure which one because I bought it about 10 years ago.

Glad this was bought back from the grave. My radiator decided to burst after 19years of service. I really cannot afford a radtec alloy one and am seriously considering a chinesey one! I was quoted prices in the region of £100 from my local motor factors on trade for a standard rad. And I really cant afford that either. I need my car back on the road asap as its my daily driver. Was wondering if the faults are due to underused cars? Any help appreciated :\
