Hi all,

I see minispares do x4 yokohama tyres for 168 quid (inc), but how good are these compaired to Goodyear, Mitch, Pirrelli etc ?

Basic Mini city size 145 70 r12 anywhere to buy or tyre make thats better in your opinions?

Need to get some good ones on for safety IE daughters first car!

i think most people will say that the yoko's are the best for 12 inch wheels, but my falkens on my tens are very good, if a little under-steer ish.

Aren't the Yoko's 165/60/R12?

They still fit, and with good serviced brakes stop very quickly in the dry.

+1 for me, in the wet and dry they seem better than the Pirelli's I had before.

the r32 yoko are the tits! semi slicks. Like motorbike tyres. The pull away plus grip is great.Even slowing down is top notch Well worth the money.

Yep....... another vote for the yokies. Superb all round tyre and only a few quid more than falkens.

Those Yoko 539's are 165/60/12's, which will be a bit wide for standard steel wheels. The Falkens ought to be adequate for normal driving. Don't forget to add the cost of fitting when you buy tyres.

Are they 60 not 70? Ok. shouldn't make any difference on standard mini city rims should it?

i have used falkens and yoko a008's and 539's Falkens are a really good all rounder the A008's were very good in the dry super sticky and not quite as good in the wet (this is my personal opinion) and the yoko 539's i have on the car at the moment and they are also a pretty good all rounder but not as good as the A008's.

If i were to go out today and buy a set of tires i would consider all 3 sets as they are all very good in one way or another.

I have 165/60/12 yokos on standard minilights and they are fine, i sometimes have a blast down the A and B roads on the way to work and handle really well, but alot is to do with the condition of the bushes and shocks as i havent got around to doing this just yet.

a 145/70/12 will be a similar "height" to a 165/60/12. The middle number is the tyre's profile: the ratio of the sidewall height compared to the tread width - 70% of 145mm versus 60% of 165mm. Times by 2 and add the rim size to get the overall height. Both sizes will fit on your wheels but 165's will be a little "balloony" with the tread an extra bit wider than the rim.

Assuming you have original 4 1/2J steel wheels

sorry just rememberd that the a008's were on my mini with 10" wheels so you can rule that choice out as i dont think its available for 12" wheels
