Hi all,

Pirate from downunder here.

Anyway, i scored this mini for $300 and it runs great.

I know nothing about minis and was wondering if someone can identify this mini for

me. Like, is it a clubman or a series A or whatever. Also, what size engine does it

have?

The engine has a picture of australia on it and says MOWOG 12G202.

Its 1973 and australian.

Greetings from a fellow Aussie.

Your Mini has an A-series (as do all Minis) 1098cc engine. These engines were of Australian manufacture and fitted to all early Aussie Clubmans. Later, (1976, I think) Leyland started fitting 998cc Uk-built engines. The Aussie Clubman is an interesting mixture, it has a Mk2 bodyshell with a Clubman front end and wind-up windows which were of BMC Australia design.

Your engine bay looks to be in remarkably good order for the age of the car. If the paint on the engine is original (they were originally painted blue), it has certainly been very well cared for.

PM me if you need any further info/help.

Or is it some kind of unique australian mini?

Yep Australian clubby. With front quarterlite windows and special door handles as seen on the "safety Mini" prototype over here!

A bargain at that price. Shame they ruined 6 of them in Im a celebrity 2 years back.

They were a mishmash of all different Minis. They were produced with the same spec as the Cooper but with a clubman body. You do see the 1971 onwards Clubman GT Model which was basically a Cooper s, with 7.5 inch breakes, twin fuel tanks, and twin-carb engine etc.

I beleive the Mk2 lights on this Mini are correct, I've never seen an Australian produced Mini with Mk1 rear brakes lights before. Nor do you see many roundnose Aussie Minis, even vans were produced with Clubman fronts.

Needs a new alternator because the ALT light stays on when running.

Fair bit of rust.

None of the doors lock so its open all the time.

Other than that, there are no leaks, the engine runs like new and it starts every time :)

How much????? Now I've often considered selling up & emigrating to Oz for the better climate, job opportunities, lifestyle etc etc. But if you can also get yourself a decent clubby there for less than £200 then I might just have to revisit the idea again!! Failing that I may have to set myself up a business importing minis from Oz instead!!
