Would it of originally had MK1 rear lights as it has a MK1 rearpanel / window?

No, the lights are correct. Aussie Minis never changed to the wider rear window - even the last ones produced still had the Mk1 sized window. When I referred to the shell as "Mk2 with a clubman front" in my earlier post I was using the term fairly loosely. :)

Not strictly true admitted it is not a clubbie http://miniclubsa.as...ndex.php?id=1:2

The Mk2 has the larger sized rear window as the later mini's did

Needs a new alternator because the ALT light stays on when running.

Fair bit of rust.

None of the doors lock so its open all the time.

Other than that, there are no leaks, the engine runs like new and it starts every time :)

Probably not what our UK friends would call "a fair bit of rust", though. The door catch/lock mechanism is uniquely Australian and possibly not Leyland Australia's finest hour! They are VERY hard to come by so hopefully your locks are just a bit seized - which they are prone to.

Regarding the alternator, best bet is to get a genuine replacement from the UK (e.g. from Minispares). The exchange rate is so good at the moment that it's much cheaper than sourcing one locally, even with freight added.

Yep Australian clubby. With special door handles as seen on the "safety Mini" prototype over here!

gotta ask, why did the UK minis not adopt this sort of door handle??

Sorry for the barging in

Loverly Clubby :)

As I recall, it was more a case of Leyland Australia had to adopt them as the earlier type didn't comply with Austrailan design rules.
