Well, it's getting to that time of year that mini's don't like, salty roads, lots of wind and rain.. so it's winter daily driver time!

Wanted one of these for a while, so I got myself a Passat B3 estate.

These were the pics on the ad..

The guy was asking £800, but I beat him down to £550.

Here's a pic of it getting a drink on the way home..

The bodywork is mint, he said if I could find any rust I could have it for nothing - and he was right! Interior's pretty good too, no holes, fag burns etc.

It's a 1.6TD, very economical, and not too slow either.

There's a problem with the gear linkage somewhere. Getting from 3rd to 2nd is a bit tricky sometimes, but I've mastered it now. It also lacks power now and again when pulling away, wish I knew more about diesels :)

It'll be getting modded slightly, picking up new wheels tomorrow, and a few other bits are in the pipeline, in particular some clear indicator lenses, due to this happening last night

I live in a dodgy area and some inebriated little Scunthorpe kicked it in. Reported it to the Police and apparently they have a name, so might get some kind of compensation. Worryingly it was parked right next to the mini, dread to think what would have happened if it didn't have it's cover on!

Thanks for reading!

Pete

Yes Jack they are 4x100. I would have jumped at BBS' otherwise!

Picked up my new wheels this morn, VW Corrado G60 steels, with 4 new tyres.

I'm aware the front tyres look ridiculous, I'll order some 195"s to match the back soon! I think I'll ask Santa for some coilovers too :)

Haha cheers Asphalt, yes it will be getting coilovers at some point, but it needs to be drivable so I won't go quite that low, unless someone wants to buy me some airbags!

Change the fuel filter if you dont know when it was last changed, get allsorts of diesels in with power problems and alot of the time its as simple as a clogged filter.

Go for a remap that will give you a nice chunk of power and torque. If you join the VWAUDIFORUM they have deals on remaps for roundabout £250 with before and after sessions on the rolling road. Also most people see an improvement in fuel consumption as well.

A chap i know got his 55 plate Bora done at Jabbasport and ended up with 190 bhp plus over 300 ft lbs of torque. He still gets 50 mpg plus on a run. Jabbasport are not cheap but as i previously mentioned there are deals on the other forum.

My mate had the saloon version of yours lowered nicely, not slammed and it handled really well but alas some toerag t boned him at a junction and that was the end of his Passat. I have a B5.5 Passat tdi and love it, big comfy and goes well plus it swallows the miles with very little wear and tear.

Hi Jordie, the fuel filter's just been changed, along with the oil and oil filter, got receipts. I have the old filter, it was a bit clogged!

Sonikk4, I wasn't sure that it was of the age of car that could be remapped? As you can see, I don't know much about modern cars! £250 sounds quite alot, but I do need to sort the problem out, I guess it would make more sense spending money on a remap and sort out the running rather than coilovers.. >_< It only cuts out very occasionally, but it can be embarrassing, and not to mention dangerous, stalling halfway out of a junction etc.

I am quite amazed at how well it handles, I did have an accidental sideways moment around a wet roundabout this morning, but I blame it on the cheap tyres it had at the time..
