And i have the correct needle fitted,for a 1293.
Also noticed when looking closer at the cable linkages they seem tobe very loose and the springs fitted incorrectly,so stripped and put them back together the correct way, will take it for a test run later.

1. Check timing......this was set up at the start with a light.
2.Re check valve clearences...again done at rebuild but will check again
3.Check ingintion points leads etc etc....all new at rebuild
4. Check for any leaks around the carb/maifold and airfilter.
I have noticed a lot of air noise around the cone filter, are they meant to sound like that?
As i mentioned before its fine when ticking over, and you can rev it allday and it never pops back through the filter only when under load and driving?

I basically re checked everything again.
1. Adjusted valve clearences.
2. Checked and double checked timing.
3. Renewed points and condenser.
4. Rechecked carb/needle changed oil in dashpot for something thicker.
And it runs perfect,i cant believe it,its such fun to drive now cant wait to give it a blast this weekend, obviously one of the above has cured it.
Thankyou all for your suggestions.
I have a HIF38 carb that i was going to replace good or bad idea?.

There is no one "correct needle for a 1293", it'll depend on the cam, head, manifolds, exhaust, carb etc.
Nial.

I really wouldn't look to a rolling road to sort out a poorly running Mini. They are expensive places to use for problem finding and they won't be able to set up your car if it has faulty bits on it.
