this guy could probably do with a project as his old mini has sadly been destroyed, plenty of people are supporting him after whats happened, im sure it would make his year to have a new mini after his unfortunate accident. he had such a nice mini before im sure he would put the effort into a new mini.

Nice thought Sam but I think the daughter and I have decided on a charity auction and the money going to a local hospice that Cliff was a Friend of. Maybe the young lad will be lucky in the auction.

Could do a bit of both, donate to a local tech/mechanical college, for the school to do it up, the students gain the know how etc, then it could be auctioned off locally, profits to a family chosen charity,

or split between the school and family. Something like that?

I think giving it away for one persons gain is unfair, personally.

Thanks, you have made some very good points.
hadn't thought of the delay between getting it restored then a charity sale.

Will try and contact the local engineering college.

Hmm, nothing's simple is it?!

The original thought of giving it a new loving owner now seems somewhat naive if, as so many of you think, it will simply end up being sold on later for a profit....

I can see the auction is better bets than a raffle for finding a "good" buyer but a) it could still be sold on later and b) people who cant afford to win in the auction wouldn't necessarily have been "bad" owners, just not as flush!

The local engineering college does appeal as this is close to my original idea of a community project teaching kids some respect for other people's property - Clifford was a 1st generation immigrant from jamaica and nothing upset him more than undisciplined kids - of any colour! and he would approve of the idea of educational use but then some of you have obviously more inside knowledge than others and paint a depressing possible outcome...

I will try and contact the local college and see if i can organize a visit. Otherwise its an auction I think.

Many thanks for all your contributions. No more individual requests to be considered, thanks.

What noble ideas, although I really want to warn against donating it to a college. I believe once it's in their name it cannot be put back on the road. Also, I was on a mechanics course last year. (Now doing motorsports engineering.) And I have to say, the condition of the cars we worked on and the funding of most colleges would mean the car would be under-appreciated and it would never get "restored". The cars we worked on came to us in good condition. . . very little rust, running engines . . . all MOT passable. After they'd been used for the year they were barely fit to be worked on. Things get broken (And not replaced.) All they really used the cars for were demonstrations and for "fitting" where parts would be taken off and refitted. Most students will do each "task" up-to and around 5 times. . . given there can be over 45 students doing the same task, these cars get very used and abused.

I think it's best the car is given to an individual, someone who would be screened and seen to be genuinely passionate about the car and it's restoration.
It looks like a lovely car and I'm sure it has amazing history! - It would be a shame to be auctioned off to anyone with enough money and to be resold or broken down for profit.
