Hey, I haven't had any lessons or anything yet, but lets just say I just passed today for this threads sake :)

If I buy a 1275cc mini can somebody give me a rough estimate on an insurance quote? I can only get quotes on normal insurers, but I've heard about Footman James/Adrian Flux etc, and 17 year olds are getting quotes under £1k

So 1275 mini, being 17 and just passed my test, what should I be looking at paying?

Personally i would ring up FJ/AF and give them details of you having passed your test @ 17, and get a quote that way. Nobody will be able to give you a accurate or even a rough quote, because it will depend on the area where you live, the car, mods ect.

I believe I'm in a low band postcode area, but I'd still like some rough quotes on anyone who's 17 because I'm just gathering ideas on if I can finance a car yet :)

Is this with a normal car insurer? Or a specialist classic car one?

Well I phoned up today and as said above, got quoted around the £1800 mark by most companies for an 998. I live in the cheapest area to insure too. The cheapest I got was about 1680. This was on fully comp by the way. Third party fire and theft was more expensive. It's confusing why it works like this but I'll try and explain it if you want me too :errr:
For a 1275 you'd be looking at around £2100 I reckon.
As for 17 year olds getting quotes under £1k, that's usually before you've passed. If anyone (particularly male) is telling you they got insured for under 1k after they've passed with a true value of the car provided plus any mods they're lying.
As a 17 year old you'd be better of getting a 850 or 998.
Insurance prices at the moment have rocketed for young drivers and are constantly going up

Adam

EDIT: It's also just as cheap now to have your own policy rather than go on your parents or have parents as a named driver. At this age classic car insures tend to be the same price, and a lot of them won't look at you unless you're 21

i had a 1275 mini tahiti 94 plate and passed when i was early 18 and my insurance was 1600 the first year, but while i was learning it was 1200 (while i was 17), im 19 now and it would only cost me 700 for the year. i cant remember the company name im going to get some pictures of the mini in a second so il post the company name up in a second. if i remember rightly it was an irish insurer :S

by the way this is on third party fire or theft and under my moms name aswell!

That kind of matches what I said then I guess? If you'd have passe when you were 17 I imagine around the 2k mark would be a good guess?
I think it's stupid how it shoots down after one year... why not just make it cheaper for the first year and not reduce it the second year? That way it would still cost the same but you'd be able to actually afford it :/

The sub £1000 quotes were from TMF with 17 year olds, fully comp on 998/1275 with footman james, not a provisional license, cheapest I get on a standard 1 litre car like a polo/106 is £2500 tpft, which is why a mini and classic car insurance appeals to me :)

Idealy I'd want a 998, but I need to know if it's much more expensive

At that price I'd ask for proof of the insurance. That price at that age is virtually impossible
it would probably be about 300 - 400 more

It's basically impossible for me to find car insurance for my 1992 Mini City 998. The cheapest i've found is around 4000. I'm currently in college and don't earn much, but i can't seem to find anything cheaper. My friend a few years ago got a 1.6 focus 03' model when he was 17, and it was 2000?! These are both just TPFT by the way. I was thinking of going with footman james, but im under 25, or I-Kube, but the car is over 16 years old. I would really like some help. Going on parents insurance is not applicable either, tried that, because it's a 2nd car for them, they won't insure me on it.

Tom.

hiya im with james footman and 17 you have to ring them and you need to jion british mini club my insurance is 1123 fully comp with all mods delclared

hope this helps danny

Couple years back could get under £500 with footman james - they're a classic car insurance broker

footman james is the cheapest out there. im with on my car n bike n thery are by far the cheapest on the market

Footman James - £750 for a 1275 mini.

I was still 17 when I got my first quote from them and im 18 now. Still same.

These are just from one thread, but footman james seem to be cheap :)

You also have to realise theyre last years prices which dont take into account for the recent hike in insurance. Best bet is to just ring them tomorrow and get a quote.

Yeah that is what I said: prices are increasing virtually every month...
