My Mini had some ice already installed when I bought it, but it never sounded as great as I would have expected it to. It had 6x9 220W Xplods under the rear seat, Aiwa head unit (180W :w00t: ), and 120w Pioneer coaxials up front.

As my complete resto is nearing completion I want to start the install from scratch. Reading the various posts I'm leaning towards 10" sub in the boot (should it be in a box?), 6" ish coaxials up front under the dash, 4 channel amp to running all three speakers and a decent head unit. How does that sound, and any recomendations on what actual components to get in that spec?

*edit*
Oh by the way, I already have an xBox lined up to go in the car and I have two 7" visor screens waiting to be used. If I get a good deal I would also like to add an in dash flip screen to the mix. don;t know if that will make any difference to the setup I should go for ...?

Heh :w00t: and I'd like everything to look as well as sound good :P so some polished/chromed bits would go down a treat :P but quality will prevail

Right, your going to get alot of Childish remarks about the 6x9s. People reffer to them as 6xshites.

I think its a bit silly really, They can sound half decent if they are setup right. But I personally dont like them either.

As for the Awia Headunit, If its the one with the AUX input on the front, Then Dont diss it. They are half bad. I had one in my old mini.
They have a built in LPF too which is a bonus. :w00t:

If you are after a simple but affective Comps / Sub setup and you dont want to be faffing around with setting it up, I would recomend a set of Comps (Spend up to about £60 on them from CAD)

They are simple to install, Just follow the instructions. I would persoally mount the speakers on the dash, and the tweeters either fabricate into the roof lining (Next to the sun visors), or mount them ontop of the dash rail.

Active subs are a good option if you are after a simple install. Now I can see myself getting slated for this, But the FLI 10" active sub isnt half bad, Ive heared it, and it dont half sound good! :P

This will fit easily into the boot of a mini and will cost no more than £100. All it needs is a power lead, A remote lead, An earth and a sub input from the HU.

Ditch the underseat boards and try to avoid speakers in the rear of the car. You sit in the front, Why spend money in the back! :w00t:

nod, i wasn't imporessed with the speakers under the back seat, so I won't be putting any of them back (the car is completely stripped down at the mo ready for respray - which means I can also put in lots of sound deadening). My front speakers will be going into custom pods that I'm fabricating myself in the footwells. I currently have some Pioneers - not sure how good they are? they sounded better than the Sonys the way they were before...

Yes the Aiwa is the one with the aux input on the front. You reckon thats worth keeping?
Its either keep the Aiwa for myslf and buy a new one for my wife's car, or give her the Aiwa and I buy a new one...

by the way I always look for things on eBay first... so new prices may not be an accurate guide.

What tweeters woudl you recommend?

Id keep away from buying speakers from ebay. 9 times out of 10 they are blown or have been cliped and will be naff.

Car audio direct is the BEST car selling place you can find. They are the cheapest.

As for the head unit. I liked it. The only downside is it didnt play MP3 CDs.

It's all about being careful, and obviously running grilles is a good idea :w00t: There's a suprising amount of room in the Mini footwells! With my size 10 feet, my heels were well out of the way
