If you don't want to part with your Mini, how about getting in touch with Madonna or Angelina?

That's how my brother - who had to get me - and my husband feel, but I'm just trying to keep it as nice as possible.

It's your call, whether you think the grief and effort is worth it. Yes, he should have liability insurance and you don't owe him any favours; you might actually be saving someone from a worse fate if you make him get his act together. You'd need evidence to support your case if you wanted to force the issue that'd mean involving an independent 3rd party.

Following your reply- if he has snottily said theres not much he can do without a proper check then do as you feel best. In my mind peoples attitude determines how they should be treated themselves- you get what you give n all...

I am also self employed, But this is no reason not to persue your case against this guy. I have to have public liability insurance to the value of £5,000,000. This garage will have a far higher liability insurance due to the nature of his work. Dont be fobed off, be firm, but polite. tell him what you expect and dont settle for anything less. I am having a real struggle to understand how a guy like this would put a car out on the road without checking it over first. Its no excuse to say "It wasnt me, He did it"
