not sure what your getting at there... but I'm simply saying what head I had a Minisport stg 3 head if I just said stg3 head then that would be stupid but I didn't do that.

anyway MS head spec is 37 in and 29 out mine has since been fitted with rimflow inlet valves this is an engine thats built and giving good figs just not delivering the power how I want it I'm not wanting to change the head untill next winter when it will be a 7 port but the MS head is quite good ok its not a MED race head or what ever but nor was it £600

That should be an excellent head as the valve sizes are large and the valves are the excellent Rimflow. That really is a top-spec head. Please reemember that I do try to give the best advice I can, but I don't have the technical specs of each company's head stages or levels, so your latest head spec is what is most helpful.
In fact, with that head, a 286 would perform well, although the final drive ratio might need to be lower to keep it 'on-the-cam' as max power would then be at around 6400 rpm. Wait until you get the 7-port. It will just fly along.

I think you would be better off upgrading the head and leaving the cam if it's the mini sport stage 3 head you've got, it's probably the weakest part of your engine in terms of power

What the...? did you just make that up in your head? how many engines have you built?

Calm down, no I didn't, I'm just giving honest advice, you basicly say you want more power without loosing driveablity, so you're going to pull the engine apart to put a cam in. You would gain more by just simply bolting a better head on, the head doesn't have to cost much, I bought a MED rally head for £150 second hand, that will be good for 125bhp. As I asked first time, what power is your engine making?

Sorry to hijack but I am about to get my engine rebuilt and trying to decide on which of these or maybe SW10.
Some details:
1293 cc maybe go up to 1330cc
3.44 dif
Head will be something like MED clubman 36x31
HIF44
Car will be only used as weekend play thing so little or no traffic worries.

What would you guys recommend?

for a head with valve that big and its not an everyday car so not much traffic i would reccomend a 286. depends on rest of the engine could push to a 296 racer pete has used that have a look in the mini engine project section his is a 1293. hes got a few videos on there

With this capacity do you think this head and cam is too much or does the cc not matter?

I suppose it all depends on what your using it for.

I would proberly go for a 286 as heard good things about them with a 1293 a 296 is well.. a race cam. all depends on what you want out of the engine really.
