I prefer the Kent High velocity chain to a belt...

What's the point?

That's a genuine Question by the way. :w00t:

I use one on my hillclimber, but mainly because I got it for free. But i do quite like it.

For a road car doing high mileage though i'd stick with chain, it's maintenance free and the late type with the tentioners are nice and quiet.

you would have the replace the belt more often (which would be a giant sized PITA). the only drawback chaindrive has over beltdrive is noise, which in a mini isn't an issue! if you want "better", go with a decent vernier duplex, and make sure you lock the adjustment properly.

Belts consume more power than chains, most car makers are switching back to multi link chains (just like the Kent chain) on their better engines now.

I've been using one of these belt kits for 5 years, had no real problems with it. Got it with my 1380 kit from med and it had a good write up in that book by david vizzard. But it does need to be changed every 20 000 miles.

Failure to change the belt will result in this.

This was from a 16valve engine, every inlet valve was bent exactly the same as below, every exhaust valve was slightly bent except one which broke off and piston damage resulted with the valve head loose in the cylinder.

The Kent silent chain is the item to use, though not as cheep as some of the ordinary vernier sets

Here's a link about mine in the technical section Clicky

Minispares do them but are showing out of stock, but the Kent part number is HV12

Min-Its so them, and probablt minispot as well, will cost about 110 notes give or take...
