Theres been a few things bugging me about my car, Wilf, for a few months now. So at the end of september it came off the road for a few modifications/improvements. I thought i'd share my progress.

The list is:
Both sills: Oversills have been fitted (including one by me a few months back- already killing the floor!!)
Centre speedo conversion
Bonnet colour change (it used to be black and i wish it still was!)
Cosmic 10inch wheels (plus brakes!!)
Mark 1 grille
General tidy up

I really hope to use it more next year so i want it to be right. Oh, and i've also got a 1275 engine with autotest gear box that i might drop in... not sure yet because i love my 998.

SO first thing is the sills......

So first of all the oversill i fitted in a hurry in May..

so i decided at this point that overills are evil, a conclusion i never thought i would come to as i always believed them to be stronger!!!!
All the rust cut out and welded up, inner ill all painted and ready....

Proper sill welded on. I plug welded and seam welded the bottom, just to make sure.

Primed, painted and laquered:

You're right about oversills being evil! They're not stronger either as the box section they form is not the correct shape.

Now you have the correct sills on, the vents give an ideal access hole to get a load of waxoyl up into the sill - this will help prevent any rust forming on the area you've welded the sill to the floor where any paint you applied will have burned off,

Good thinking! Waxoyl is definitely on the shopping list.

I then had to do the whole lot again on the drivers side. I was hoping it would be a little better here, but it always throws up surprises...

Old sill off and all the rubbish that fell out:

Rust treated and ready for paint

A few pin holes i had to repair on the floor
Posted Image

This is nasty, i've decided to leave this till later. For now the sill is on and the seam/lip repaired

All done this afternoon

By now he was covered in dust and rubbish so gave him a clean.

Thats all for now, next is sorting out the bonnet!

Bit of an update, sorted the hole in the A panel by welding in a small patch, filling then priming. Its not perfect but its ok for me. Also started on the bonnet by welding up the badge holes and started with a bit of filler.
