Had a fairly lucky one today. Just as I parked up at work, a lower ball joint came apart!
Luckily it somehow undid itself, and popped out. Had some major camber on the front. Got it sorted in the end, put it back together, made sure it was tight, and folded down the flap-bits to stop it happening again!
I really need to change all the ball joints really...

oh what memories are flooding back.In my teens in 1st mini, a 1970 1000 the throttle cable broke. Had some pliers and things luckily, connected the choke cable in place of the throttle and got back like that. Could only get about 1/2 throttle as I recall.Slightly odd driving experience. Clutch master or slave cylinder went on another occasion cant remember now, and got back 20 miles with no clutch-teaches you how to synchronise gear changes

Do Minis breakdown, or do parts that have been overused and not replaced just give up?

There lots of foibles on my Mini, any one of which could cause me to breakdown - and no doubt one probably will one day, but this is my own fault for not replacing parts that need replacing.

incorrect tuning and wet electrics.

Solved with a rolling road tune, and fitting a plastic sheet behind the grille (not paying 40 quid for an ignition shield when half the time they dont do much) :)
