My 2000 mpi wont start. was fine last night but this morning it turned over but wouldnt fire up.

Had a look tonight & noticed when i turn the ign on you cant hear the usuall noise of the fuel pump, Have checked the fuel cut off switch plus the fuel pump fuse & the main 30 amp main engine fuses.

Its now raining & the torch has gone flat so it's going to have to wait until tomorrow afternoon :D

Any idea what to check next ?

If the fuses are fine, your batteries are charged (the car, I mean, not you) & you still can't hear the fuel pump whirring, I would reckon it were that, isn't it. Could be relay, could be pump.

Mine went on Matilda a couple of years ago. Got a secondhand one cheap.

Connected a live to the fuel pump from the battery & you can hear the pump working but still not starting, On Darkscamps suggestion i'm going to get an injection relay module & try that.

Sorry Pete she's not fixed but is running !

Right i fitted a new relay module & it didnt make any difference so got the car recovered to a garage, they phoned me to say it needed a relay module as they had connected a second hand one from a metro & she started. i told him there was a new one in the car so he connected it up & nothing so thought it was a faulty unit.
I took it back to the suppliers & tried three more brand new ones & they didnt work, went to a local guy who breaks mini's & fitted an mpi one that started another mpi but it didnt work on mine, we connected up a unit from an spi & she starts & runs fine, the only thing is that with both the metro & spi ones the cooling fan is on constantly.
I was under the impression that the mpi & spi units were not interchangeable ?
So the question is why it wont start with the correct unit but will with twp different wrong ones & is running it on the spi one doing any damage ?
