Was it turning over with the faulty relay unit?

A friends MPI wont turn over (see my thread in this section) I thought it might be the relay pack as we have ignition dash lights but no cranking.

Someone suggested the coolant temp sensor can causethe ecu to put the choke on and described a rad fan as constantly on as a symptom but I dont know if this is accurate or not!

Obviously the realy units are different - so i would be investigating how the units work. (wiring diagrams, what the relay triggers etc)

When you find the difference it should then point you in the direction as to why the MPi unti isn't working and thus your problem Nige :)

Well all sorted eventually  I got fed up with having to jump start it most mornings & after overheating ( dut to disconnecting the fan ) in the que on the way into Bingley showground last month & arriving on the end of a tow rope with steam coming from under the bonnet as some of you saw :o I booked it in with a guy who used to work at a Rover dealer & left it with him on saturday. Turned out to be a wire to the ecu had worn through on the cold air heater pipe on the inner wing. Not sure why she would run on the spi relay box but the shorted wire was causing the relay box to stay permanantly live & cooling fan running permanantly while the ign was on.
The battery was going flat overnight, repair done & now it runs on the proper relay box & the fan cuts in & out as it should ! :o  :D
