hey guys,

I am currently living in southern California. I am going to school in Poland June 2006 and will be selling my nissan 350z for the cost of college and living expenses, and most importantly, getting a new car. I am interested in the classic mini cooper, but am very new to this car and do not know which model or year I should pursue for my project ideas. I will either be going to Poznai or Krakow for schooling, and if any of you are familiar with those cities. Parking is a figment of ones imagination :w00t: So, the mini is the best choice for parking, performance, looks, and handling.

I am interested in getting a mini that I can modify for turbo, strip to the bone, place in a roll cage, put on a clean body kit, and add good handling suspension with the widest wheels that I can put on the car.

My first goal is to figure out what year/model classic mini is best for the highest level of engine modification and reliability, then the looks will come later.

I would appreciate if anyone could provide me with links to articles on modifying the mini and/or an online site where I could purchase a mini in poland. Thanks.

Alex.

Does it have to be a cooper?

Coopers can be generally more expensive/harder to find sometimes.

I would go for a post 84 car.

This way you have disc brakes and maybe a servo which saves the hassle of converting the brakes later. Since you plan to fit a body kit and wide wheels, i guess you will be using 13" rims. (no need to worry about smaller discs etc for 10" rims)

Turbo you say....

Well you can pickup a Turbo engine for around £400 UK GBP, which you could rebuild and swap with the current engine.

You can strip any mini to the bone with time....

If you plan to body kit the mini, look around the car for the usual rust stops and hopefully you will find one which is ok or easy to repair. Adding a body kit can trap water/rust or hide it at least.....not what you need when the car has to have a MOT test.

Welcome....

And one further note.... Are you likely to want to ship it back to the US ???

If so, check your import restrictions on the age of the vehicle... I think they need to be pre 76 or something like that ( unless you fake the documentation which is how some minis get into the US )

Also as a bonus, the International Mini Meet is in Poland this year (2006)
