got caught once but managed to prove in the end that i had sold it. i photocopy v5 and get new owner to sign receipt which i also note the mileage on, amount of road tax and mot. once this is done its up to them were and when they drive it. i keep these and the confirmation from dvla for about a year then burn. maybe seems a bit OTT but better to be safe than sorry.

Yes Minili.I have made one or two blunders in the past.I used to leave the paper work for mates to do,learnt the hard way to do it myself,i still have one i can trust but he is a Police Sgt.No errors with him.He is always switched on but a great bloke.Taking the mick of myself i sold a sooty van to someone giving them all the papers to sort out they did not and used it to run drugs. My dad did the same and they ram-raded a shop in it.Another one a man exported the car fast in my name. When the SORN came out i did not know the new law and got a fine for a car i had in bits in a garage for years.Had to pay it.Take the TEAMS good advice they do check the law out for us all.TAX is also a big one to keep an eye on.Just sold my private no. plate off my latest prodject to fund the restore costs. Not happy doing that but needed to.The new plates they sent me would be great on someones BMW 320 but i can not sell them by law. They look daft on my car.I am not one for selling plates if they are on the car when i buy it.Years ago i had London Yuppys after my WX1 plates for there post code, not forsale sorry. You do have to be very sharp on deals these days for your own good. When new to trades it does take time and study to get the details spot on.The Law no longer gives any Grace on things. :)

I'm shocked at how often the DVLA seem to get things wrong!

I've been having a fight with a car dealership and DVLA for 6 months now about the fact my 5 door 1.9 Ibiza is registered as a 3 door 1.6

The problem is, I don't actually know who's to blame! What I do know is my car has 5 doors! I'm sure it's not a ringer, it's an 09 plate ex demonstrater and my other half is the second owner, the first being the dealership

i had the same problem when i got my skyline the garage that had imported it registered it as a 1995 nissan Qashqai 2.6 diesel 1. they did not make that model in '95 and 2. its not a diesel. So i had to faf about sending loads of paper work off and a letter from nissan saying my car was a Nissan skyline GTR 2.6 twin turbo, and pay £25 to sort their mess out. But about a month after i got the correct logbook back i also got my £25 back :)

I also bought a Import Car from Japan full spec. The insurance was daft high for it.Watch out.most of us have made a few mistakes and had to pay for them.Paper work details is a good chat topic. They have to put your V5 Details right to cover you.The Police are right ones for papers. When young and running a few cars i had a pull and had to produce my papers at the station for one of them.in a rush i took the wrong insurance Cert. they tried to arrest me but i ran off and drove straight back with the right one before they could nick me.I had all the real Docs.I am in one with the value of my new project with the insurance because they are having to wait for my new plate, photos and value,i have payed them cash for the fully comp. cover i needed by law to get the thing a quarter of a mile home on the road i do have tax and MOT on it but its broke.A lot of bills for a car in one of my garages in bits.Fines would have cost me more and points i do not need.We are all in the same boat on these things.
