One of my many other questions from my question bank..

What do people find works best as far as air filters go?

K&N, Steel Gauze, Socks?

Ive heard Socks are horrid, Ive seen videos where they nearly get sucked in.

Id like your opinion on these three.

Thanks,
Jeff

A sock wont get sucked in on a mini, not mine anyway :)

I run a ram pipe and a sock filter, and never had any issues, plus it sounds sweet.
Its also surprisingly quick for a 998, and running the ram pipe/sock combo is the only real difference between mine and other stage one 998's.

Nothing wrong with a genuine K&N though, work great.

+1, k&n filter is miles ahead of all the others, in both cfm and clogg'ability.

I need to find the video with the mini on the dyno- violently pulsing the socks as they wanted to get sucked in. Maybe I was mislead, but someone has to have the video!

They were running twin Weber 45s.

Also questioning the aluminum gauze mesh ones, I am sure they would let more air through but sand particles might get in

Best I find is a KnN replacement filter in standard airbox.

:)

I had a ram pipe on mine which sounded great, don't think you will notice much differnce between a k&n and a ram pipe & sock filter to be honest. I got my ram pipe for 99p so I used that and they wont get sucked in, those sock filters wasn't very good.

I find that socks are good at keeping my feet fresh...... that is about as good as they get. they offer little in the way of filtration but do decrease the volume of air going in :D

i have a k&n filer

i then changed it for a ram pipe and pipercross sock filter, will a slight mod to the carb there was a noticble difference

did have to change the need to AAA in the end to make it ruin better.

no way a sock filter would get sucked in a the top is trippled layered and fairly strong.
