i have got a strange urge to get myself an allegro, i ahve had loads of cars over the years, (ital, marina coupe, metros, xj40, vw's, novas and astras, all sorts really) but i have a real love for cars mdae by BL in the 70s and 80s, and having never had an allegro i quite fancy one.

i do have a few ideas about mods, but would just like a good solid 2 door, (with a vvc engine uprated brakes and lowered stiff suspension etc)

does anyone know of a good one?

my 3rd ever car was an 1100 ellegro. cracking car, but the front arm rotted out the body an the wheel and hub colapsed. was'nt worth repairing after that.

not got any pictures but it had slot mag alloys, spot lights. bright orange paint work, furry seat covers, ow and a big wip cb arial from the front wing bent over the roof.
simon.

My dad had a Police panda car in the form of an allegro when I was a nipper .....when he parked it with one front wheel on the pavement, and opened the door.....the windscreen popped out :)

Yeah(this may not be true as its only something i heard!!), they wern't allowed in the mersey tunnel as they couldn't be pushed without the rear window popping out!!

I love them as well by the way, my mates dad owned a garage and he had a red allegro with slotmags that me and his son used to drive around his yard.

I also rememeber a blue class 7 autograss aggro that had a rover v8 stuffed in the back, that was a giant killer!!

Good choice dude :)

Well i like all the old Classic cars. The 1750cc was a good one.i think i would go for a good Triumph Dolly instead. They are very nice to drive and all wood inside a real classic car.The sprint has gone up to much for most.Mine over heated all the time.Fast in its day comp. with BMW.the 1500cc is very nice.Nice when the law used them you could spot the square lights first. :)

My brother in law had one when he was first dating my sister.

It was yellow with a black vinyl seats. We used to go down Hackney market in it every Sunday and he used to always get it washed on the way back in the car wash. God knows why. I would have wanted as much dirt on it as possible, the dirtier it was, the less like a bruised banana it looked!

It was pretty comfy though! Back in the day when seats were like arm chairs and stuffed with foam.

I had a 1750 sport demonstrator......took a bend fast and the screen shattered...sounded like a shotgun...not laminated in those days. I beleive the police cars had the jacking points covered as their use could pop the screen.

They did have many problems but a good small family car, they were everwhere.Like boats with wheels.I also had the 1700cc Princess ship, that was bad to drive. The old Austin 1300cc was good. They even made a few MG ones. The old Maxi was a good car.I did like my MK1 Ford Zepher, bench seats and gears on dash, built like a tank.Wish i still had it.The Hillman Imp was also very good.Mother had many old cars to A38,A40,minis and even a fiat 500.That was fun.
Think i would hold onto the Mini.Shows my age many Classics were daily drivers back then. Not the Ford that was old when i got it about 30 years ago.

One man's hobby is another man's MENTAL illness.

That said, my Grandad traded in a Wolsey 3 Litre when he retired and bought an Allegro Vandom Plas. 1500 cc Twin Carb 5 speed, hydrospastic suspension, walnut dash, leather seats, picnic tables.

lovely. in 1976.

Maybe not the best buy as he could have bought a decent E type for that price!!!!
