I had a similar problem, when I fitted the outer race of the wheel-bearing to the swivel hub one was still a bit loose in the hub, I hoped for the best and so assembled everything, alas I still had play, I scrapped the swivel hub and fitted another one.

I imagine someone prior to me had been a bit sloppy in the way it had been assembled and the swivel-hub was beyond repair.

very little chance, as these things are made to an exceptionally high tolerance... how tight a fit was the outer bearing within the hub ? and if you run your finger nail along the CV shaft is there a step ?

The bearings were a very tight fit, fitted them by drifting, without marking the inside faces. The CV had a very very slight 'dip' as apposed to a step but you could definately see wear marks. Hopefully new CV's will solve the problem.

Once the shaft is out and the gator off, whats the best way to remove the old cv, a gentl tap? I assume it's help on with the same typr of circlip the internal bearing cages are?

Thanks

Matt

I've seem people clamp some grips on the driveshaft and knock the shaft inwards with a bar on the grips, there's enough room in the inner CV to allow the release of the of outer CV, this has to be done whilst all the hub is still intact.

Failing that you'll either have to pull all the driveshaft out, or the shaft out of the inner CV and then hold the shaft in a vice and tap the CV off by tapping it in the centre of the CV right next to the driveshaft.
